New Millennium Girls Writing Bundle is a five-book set from New Millennium Kids Publishing and includes the following: New Millennium Girls Writing Curriculum: Introducing Isabel, Isabel’s Closet, Princess and Frog: Write a Fairytale, Creative and Crafty Writing Teacher’s Manual, and Creative and Crafty Writing Student Workbook. Isabel’s Writing, written by Jan May and illustrated by Julianna Davis, is a 12-week course. Isabel’s Closet, also written by Jan May and illustrated by Julianna Davis, is a paper doll and craft book created as a companion to New Millennium Girls Writing Curriculum: Introducing Isabel. Princess and Frog: Fairytale Writing Adventures is written by Jan May. Creative Crafty Writing Teacher’s Manual and Creative and Crafty Writing Student Workbook, written by Karine Bauch and Jan May, is a 12-lesson, Christ-centered course that combines creative writing with fun and easy crafts. All the books in this set are designed for grades 3-6 students and are currently available for $69.95. A digital version is also available for $50.00.
New Millennium Girls Writing Curriculum: Introducing Isabel and Isabel’s Closet can be used with either an individual student or with a group. These books can also be used as a fun summer writing project. Isabel’s Writing teaches godly character development, creating a setting, spicing up dialogue, writing an interesting plot, choosing a theme that encourages character growth, and the golden rule of writing: “Show, don’t tell.” Each lesson has three parts. The first part is learning time, followed by writing time and ending with craft time. At the end of the 12-week course, the student will write a complete story and illustrate a cover. Isabel’s Closet contains a paper doll of Isabel, clothes, and other accessories. These items are used during craft time in the New Millennium Girls Writing Curriculum: Introducing Isabel lessons. My daughter enjoys both the creative writing and the craft portions. I recommend laminating these items to help the paper doll and accessories last longer.
Like New Millennium Girls Writing Curriculum: Introducing Isabel and Isabel’s Closet, Princess and Frog: Fairytale Writing Adventures can be used in individual and group settings. Each lesson generally lasts 45 minutes to an hour and consists of lesson time, writing time, activity time, and princess school time. Through these lessons, students learn about developing characters, settings, and plot; writing a story with a moral; choosing themes that encourage character growth; using adjectives; incorporating literacy tools such as personification; the golden rule of writing; and editing a story. At the end of the final lesson, lesson 12, the student can present her story during Fairytale Flashlight Theatre to family and friends. My daughter looks forward to each lesson portion, especially writing and activity time. As a mom raising Christian girls, I especially appreciate how the princess school time focuses on inner beauty and godly characteristics such as courage, generosity, kindness, thankfulness, honesty, diligence, thinking of others, and hospitality.
Crafty Writing Teacher’s Manual and Creative and Crafty Writing Student Workbook also contains 12 lessons. Each lesson is approximately 45 minutes to an hour and contains three parts: learning time, writing time, and craft time. There is an optional journal assignment that can be done as homework and prepare students for the next lesson. Students will learn about writing fables, news stories, and narratives during the lessons. Each lesson has a small amount of teacher prep, and the teacher’s manual includes a supply list for all lessons at the beginning of the book. I am thankful for having this list so I could prepare by having supplies ready in advance.
With the exception of the Crafty Writing Teacher’s Manual and Creative and Crafty Writing Student Workbook, each book is written to the student and contains simple step-by-step instructions in each lesson so the student can complete the lessons independently. Each lesson is 45 minutes to an hour and contains three parts: learning time, writing time, and craft time. This series has helped spark my daughter’s love for creative writing. She looks forward to her lessons; creative writing is now her favorite subject. Her creative writing skills have greatly improved. My daughter has been enjoying creating her own stories, and I have been enjoying her learning more about godly qualities. I also love how the lessons throughout the curriculum incorporate scriptures into the lessons. I highly recommend this curriculum to families interested in a Christ-centered creative writing curriculum emphasizing scriptures and godly character.
