The Great Grammar Book by Marsha Sramek was written for grades nine through twelve. This all-in-one grammar book can also be used by accelerated middle school students as well as a refresher for homeschool parents as they teach their students. This complete grammar course is laid out in twelve comprehensive chapters. It is two hundred eighty-six pages. It begins with subject-verb agreement and ends with successful writing strategies.

Each chapter is broken down into short but thorough lessons and either has one or a combination of a few related grammar concepts at a time. After each concept is taught there is a review exercise that can help the teacher gauge where the student is and if there are any gaps that need to be reviewed. The reviews that follow the lessons are to solidify the concept and show its practical use.

As you move through each chapter, the lessons will build on the identifications of grammar rules and will review new ones. At the end there is either a single chapter review or a few of them. There is also one comprehensive final review before moving to the next chapter.

The book can be used as either a semester-long book for an advanced and quick student, or a yearlong class for an average-speed classroom. The book could also be used to customize a two-year class if you wanted to go into more depth with each chapter, especially chapter twelve.

This book is a great program by itself or as a review companion with any other grammar program. The ideas are presented in a clear and factual manner with real examples of use and plenty of practice. The program is cost efficient and user friendly for learners of all styles. It is a tool that is recommended for aspiring writers as well.
