Schools Nationwide Return to Virtual Education After Virus Outbreaks
The Old Schoolhouse® provides support and offers resources to those who may be facing opposition. GRAY, Tenn. - November 17, 2020 - PRLog --
Just months after school districts reopened their doors to students, some have been forced to close again due to virus outbreaks. Regardless of the harrowing efforts put into place to prevent such drastic measures, schools are beginning to turn again to online education. The staggered schedules, reduced bus capacity, hybrid schooling, and mask requirements only kept schools from closing for a short time as many students are now told that they must attend classes in a fully virtual format—from home. Parents across the nation are scrambling to make this work.
In Troy, Michigan, all K–12 students are required to continue their education virtually since their superintendent, Dr. Richard Machesky, informed parents that the district continues to have "major staffing issues" as teachers are required to quarantine due to virus exposure (ClickonDetroit.com). Staying open is simply not an option. Less than a month after schools reopened in Henry County, Virginia, the Henry County School Board voted to return to all-virtual learning due to the amount of employees required to quarantine, as well as cases among staff and students (MartinsvilleBulletin.com). Roosevelt Elementary School in Janesville, Wisconsin, abruptly shifted to virtual instruction recently as a result of many staff members exposed to the virus (Channel3000.com).
Parents looking for more flexibility than the ever-changing public school options are turning to homeschooling. The Old Schoolhouse®
SchoolhouseTeachers.com is unique in that all the courses are self-paced. Students are not required to sign in at a specific time during the day or forced to share their screen with others. Parents and students have access to over 450 courses that span across all subjects and grade levels. Recently, the company rolled out their new virtual School Boxes for students in grades K–12. Parents new to the homeschooling format have been raving about these boxes. Each virtual box includes everything needed for the school year, from core classes to options for electives. The best part is, regardless of family size, a subscription to SchoolhouseTeachers.com covers all children, even if they require use of several different School Boxes levels. Parents appreciate the ease and flexibility that these new virtual School Boxes provide, while students have been able to enjoy a more relaxed approach to education. Anyone with further questions about the virtual School Boxes provided by SchoolhouseTeachers.com can take a look at their FAQ (https://schoolhouseteachers.com/

Children
The Old Schoolhouse® provides support and offers resources to those who may be facing opposition.GRAY, Tenn. - Nov. 10, 2020 - PRLog --
The recent pandemic and the school closures that ensued have forced many parents to re-think their children's education, turning to homeschooling as they weather the unknown. As parents get down to the nitty-gritty of the day-to-day schoolwork routine, it is common for new homeschoolers to ask themselves, "What am I doing? How can I possibly keep this up?" And the most heart-wrenching of them all, "Am I going to ruin my child?"
Knowing that new home educating parents will ask themselves these very questions, Senior Editor for The Old Schoolhouse© Magazine, Deborah Wuehler, addresses these concerns and shares practical advice, along with timely encouragement, to parents, reassuring them that they are not only up for the task of home educating their children, but have already set their children up for success just by choosing to homeschool."You are giving them the freedom to learn in their own unique ways, to develop passions for ideas and knowledge, and nurturing their curiosity. She goes on to explain, "You are the expert in their sleep patterns, their nutrition, and their physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and academic needs. You are the expert!"

Is School at Home the Same as Homeschooling?
The Old Schoolhouse® provides support and offers resources to those who may be facing opposition.
GRAY, TN, UNITED STATES, September 29, 2020 /PRnewswire.com/ --
When parents heard for the first time that their children's schools would be shuttered and that schoolwork must be completed remotely, they became homeschoolers overnight. Or did they? Is homeschooling simply doing your schoolwork at home? Many families who have been homeschooling for years gently would say, "No," and come alongside families affected by the current pandemic to demonstrate that homeschooling can be a way of life, not just a chore to get through each day. Countless parents have taken to social media to express their frustration and concerns with teaching their kids at home due to the virus. While trying to balance work with making sure their children are paying attention to Zoom classes and completing their assignments diligently, parent patience is running thin. Some of these families are sticking with the public school option for various reasons, but homeschooling companies such as The Old Schoolhouse® are providing resources for families interested in exploring the flexibility that homeschooling has to offer so they do not become overwhelmed by trying to adhere to a strict schedule mandated by others.
The creative minds behind The Old Schoolhouse®, who have been providing homeschoolers with the premier homeschooling magazine for almost two decades and the growing SchoolhouseTeachers.com curriculum platform, have come together to provide those considering homeschooling and new homeschoolers alike with a valuable resource entitled The Homeschooling Primer. This unique resource outlines what homeschooling is and what it is not. It explores the different learning styles that children may fit into and how to teach them creatively. It dives into the variety of homeschooling styles so families can ascertain which might be the best fit for them. Additionally, a special needs section is included to help parents interested in caring for their special learners in the home setting.
Gena Suarez, publisher of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine shares, "Our heart is to help the families who have decided to take the plunge into homeschooling both short term and long term. If it is short term, we hope to help them have a pleasant experience, and if it is long term, we have a wide range of resources available throughout every stage from preschool through high school."
For families who are still considering their options, a print version of The Homeschooling Primer is available for purchase for only $5 in The Schoolhouse Store, or it can be downloaded for free at www.TheHomeschoolingPrimer.com.

Parents in Disagreement with New School Requirements Turn to Homeschooling
The Old Schoolhouse® provides support and offers resources to those who may be facing opposition.
GRAY, TN, UNITED STATES, September 5, 2020 /PR.com/ --
Virginia Commissioner of Health Dr. Norman Oliver revealed in a recent interview that he plans to impose a coronavirus vaccine mandate for his state. "I think the overwhelmingly (sic) majority of people would, in fact, respond well," Oliver stated (Fox News). Though vaccines are on the forefront of the general population’s mind, not everyone is convinced that those running Operation Warp Speed, whose goal is to provide a COVID-19 vaccine in record time, will provide a safe vaccine. When the varicella (chicken pox) and HPV vaccines were introduced over the past couple of decades, many parents who generally stuck to the CDC’s schedule of vaccinations started raising their eyebrows. Questions arose about the safety and legitimacy of such vaccines. Now with a COVID-19 vaccine in the works, even more parents are beginning to second guess allowing doctors to administer every vaccine that the CDC recommends to their children.
As states begin to see how compliant their constituents have been throughout the pandemic with enforcements being put in place such as mandatory masks, shuttering schools, closing churches, and even threatening businesses that refuse to close down, it is no surprise that they believe as Dr. Oliver does. Massachusetts is even going as far as requiring mandatory flu vaccines in order to attend school. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health said in a statement that students must receive a flu vaccine by December 31, 2020, or they will not be allowed to attend their schools any longer. The statement also mentioned that homeschooled students are exempt, causing families who have never looked at homeschooling before to take a closer look (Boston.cbslocal.com).
Thousands of parents are flocking to online-based education that is not funded by the public education system so they can continue to remain in control of their children’s welfare since some states such as Texas are requiring every child to have every required vaccine even if they are doing their public schooling virtually. Fortunately, parents have options. Gena Suarez, publisher of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine reflects on the tremendous growth of her homeschooling platform SchoolhouseTeachers.com, “This is always a busy time of year for our company, but this year our numbers of new members coming in have tripled compared to this time last year. We look forward to helping families new to homeschooling and will be with them every step of the way.”
To help families who are considering homeschooling for the first time, SchoolhouseTeachers.com has opened up its top-performing promo codes of 2020 for the beginning of the fall semester. Several codes are available so families with different needs and preferences can easily pay one price for their entire family. Visit SchoolhouseTeachers.com to learn more.

Is Homeschooling the “New Normal”?
The Old Schoolhouse® provides support and offers resources to those who may be facing opposition.
GRAY, TN, UNITED STATES, July 9, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ --
As schools announce reopening plans, parents begin to question whether public schooling is for them anymore. Gone are the days of strategically moving to a prestigious neighborhood to secure a coveted school with quality education and a wide array of opportunities. Regardless of a family’s public school district, education for their children will not be as it was in the past—location is irrelevant. Most parents can expect to see staggered schedules, desks placed six feet apart, and the possibility of required mask use.
Despite President Trump’s recent push for the schools to reopen in the fall, 54 percent of American voters proclaim that they are uncomfortable with the reopening of K–12 schools according to a POLITICO/Morning Consult Poll. Additionally, three unions in Fairfax County, Virginia, released a statement fighting against the county school system’s return to school plan (abcnews.go.com). Another county in Virginia, Loudon, ran a survey where one-third of responding parents would likely choose 100 percent distance learning for their children.
In New York City, 200,000 public school educators expressed a genuine fear of returning to school in the fall. Reopening for in-person learning is simply not on their radar. This does not mean though that education as a whole has taken a backseat.
"We are seeing the democratization of education—the playing field is being leveled and now it doesn't matter if your child attended a good public school or a horrible one before the pandemic," explains Gena Suarez, publisher of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine. "Parents have been asking, ‘How can I keep my child learning’ and many have found the answer—homeschooling. In the fall, many families will decide to continue educating their children at home, public schools will likely lose millions of students, and homeschooled children will receive a better education as a result."
Parents are seeking out alternative methods of education this fall, primarily online options. Recognizing that their values and beliefs are being challenged by textbooks that have torn Christian influence from the pages, many families are turning to the Christian, self-paced, online homeschooling platform SchoolhouseTeachers.com. This growing platform is home to over 9,000 member families who choose to home educate their children with assistance from qualified and experienced lesson designers.
The alarming news that over 40 Santa Clara County principals and other district officials were exposed to the coronavirus recently is causing many to reconsider educational options (source). In Los Angeles, around 20% of families and 36% of school staff oppose the reopening of schools for in-person learning (source). Additionally, two weeks after Israel fully reopened, a COVID-19 outbreak resulted in at least 130 cases at a single school. Education is shifting no matter how you look at it—school will not be the same this fall. The question remains, where will the majority of children be when this shift occurs? Many are declaring, by choosing to home educate, that the answer is home, where they belong.

Is Homeschooling the “New Normal”?
The Old Schoolhouse® provides support and offers resources to those who may be facing opposition.
GRAY, TN, UNITED STATES, July 1, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ --
When early spring saw the need for children to exit traditional schoolrooms, families began wondering what education would look like in the fall. The Old Schoolhouse® went to work finalizing its digital School Box Homeschool Curriculum sets for each grade, K–12, enabling parents to provide an organized educational experience for their children in the safety of their own homes.
“We realize that there is great uncertainty about what public education will look like next year,” says Gena Suarez, publisher of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine. “Parents are looking for stability in their children’s education. They need to be able to plan their schedules and have a routine they can count on, while ensuring that their children receive a comprehensive education.”
The digital Homeschool Curriculum Boxes include all the curriculum guides and resources needed to successfully teach a full year of skills, including daily and weekly checklists to keep students on track, direct links to SchoolhouseTeachers.com courses and resources, access to World Book libraries, and dozens of additional tools for the entire family. With quarterly payments as low as $37.97, one SchoolhouseTeachers.com membership provides access for all grade levels.
Alternating schooldays in classrooms with remote learning ordered by the school but “overseen” by the parents is being discussed in many public school districts for the fall. Some schools are planning social distancing for students, recommending cloth masks, and even limiting bus service to 50% capacity. Warnings are also being made that a surge in illness could cause schools to shut down again. For some parents, all of that is too much potential chaos. Many are deciding that teaching their children at home— and avoiding the stress and uncertainty caused by the pandemic—might be their new normal, with help from organizations like The Old Schoolhouse®.

School Districts Begin to Roll Out Reopening Plans—Parents Turn to Homeschooling
The Old Schoolhouse® provides support and offers resources to those who may be facing opposition.
GRAY, TN, UNITED STATES, June 16, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ --
Now that the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) has posted guidelines for the reopening of schools in the fall, school districts have begun to present parents with options, most of which are met with opposition. Parents in the Webster Central School District in New York are fuming as the Reopening Schools Task Force meetings are happening without the input of parents. Now that they have had a taste of what it’s like to have more control over their children’s education, they are not willing to give it up so easily. Though several states such as North Carolina, Virginia, and New Jersey have begun to outline reopening plans, many are vague and include phases or several possible options dependent upon certain factors. In California, Governor Gavin Newsom is unsure whether or not schools will meet in-person or virtually even though many parents are not satisfied with the virtual schooling that has been taking place over the past few months. In Maryland, virtual schooling caused an uproar when mother Courtney Lancaster shared that her 11-year-old son was met by the police for a weapons search in his room due to a concerned viewer of his Google Meet class. The weapon in question? A BB gun.
“Privacy and parental control are serious concerns for families at this time,” Gena Suarez, publisher of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine comments. “Additionally, the increase of regulations and new restrictions that are being put into place will be too overwhelming and stressful for many children.”
The regulations Suarez is referring to are the ones planning to be enforced in places such as New Albany, Ohio, where students will be forced to wear electronic beacons to track their location throughout the upcoming school year. Rather than waiting for definitive plans to be laid out in their home states or complying with these overreaching measures, parents are reaching out to the homeschooling community. In fact, a RealClear Opinion poll states that some 40 percent of parents are considering schooling from home even after the schools open back up.
It is no surprise then that Suarez has seen an uptick in subscribers to The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine during the COVID-19 pandemic. “There is a 57 percent increase in our magazine subscriptions compared to this same time last year,” Suarez confirms. The popular homeschooling magazine provides insight, support, and content relevant to homeschooling. This sudden spike in sales is in addition to a 17 percent increase on their homeschool curriculum platform, SchoolhouseTeachers.com.
Rather than waiting to see if their children will be allowed in the classrooms or on buses or to be a part of sports teams this fall, parents are considering taking the education of their children into their own hands by joining the 2.5 million students already homeschooling in the United States (NHERI.org). Parents seeking resources may visit TryHomeschooling.com which is available to any parent, regardless of educational background, to assist in homeschooling needs for children in grades PreK–12.

Is Homeschooling in Danger?
The Old Schoolhouse® provides support and offers resources to those who may be facing opposition.
GRAY, TN, UNITED STATES, May 7, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- While most of the world has returned to educating their children at home, questions have come to the forefront concerning homeschooling, a practice that companies such as The Old Schoolhouse® have supported for years. Harvard Professor of Law Elizabeth Bartholet recently addressed this concern with her article, Homeschooling: Parent Rights Absolutism vs. Child Rights to Education & Protection, calling for a ban on homeschooling. She refers to a growing concern about parents raising their children with a Creationist, Biblically based worldview: “Many don’t believe in the scientific method, looking to the Bible instead as their source for understanding the world.” Additionally, while 15 percent of homeschooling families in the United States are nonwhite/nonHispanic (NHERI.org), she claims that homeschooling encourages white supremacy. Yet, a 2015 study found black homeschool students to be scoring 23 to 42 percentile points above black public school students (NHERI.org).
Bartholet’s article sparked Harvard Law School to call for a homeschooling summit to discuss what they consider a “dangerous” practice. While a single paper from a Harvard professor and a summit might seem insignificant, The Old Schoolhouse® publisher Gena Suarez recognizes this as a draconian threat against homeschooling families. “The denial of the rights of families to choose the best educational option for their children is completely misguided,” Suarez warns. “Parents make great sacrifices to provide the best learning environments for children, and they deserve support and encouragement in their choice to homeschool.”
That is exactly what Suarez and her team at The Old Schoolhouse® are providing with their curriculum site, SchoolhouseTeachers.com. “We allow the parent to guide their children’s education based on the needs and interests of their children,” Suarez affirms. “Our self-paced courses give parents the freedom, tools, and support needed to successfully home educate.” While parents have been thrust into the unknown during these unprecedented times, Suarez is currently offering a generous kit of homeschooling materials to any new member of SchoolhouseTeachers.com.
No matter what controversies surround home education, the modern homeschool movement has a decades-long record of producing successful, well-rounded adults (NHERI.org). The Old Schoolhouse® remains a leader in this movement, providing support to new and veteran homeschoolers alike through its curriculum platform, SchoolhouseTeachers.com, and The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine.

Ingenious Temporary Homeschooling Techniques Being Used Right Now
GRAY, TN, UNITED STATES, March 17, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Schools throughout the country are closed for at least two weeks. Parents are scrambling to keep their pantries filled, toiletries stocked, and children on track with their schooling. Ill-prepared and panicked, parents are unsure of what to do next. This is why homeschooling parents Paul and Gena Suarez created The Old Schoolhouse® in the first place. Almost twenty years ago when parents were scared, confused, and unsure of themselves, they reached out to eBay storeowner Gena Suarez who was selling used homeschooling materials. “They were not just in search of homeschooling materials,” she reminisces, “they were looking for advice, encouragement, and someone to tell them they could do it.” The interactions through eBay messages led not only to the publication of the most popular homeschooling magazine worldwide, The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine, but the educational platform SchoolhouseTeachers.com that is used by thousands of member families. Now, more than ever, the platform is being used by veteran homeschooling families and temporary homeschooling families with children of all ages. Families with a variety of needs and educational styles are flocking to the platform in search of help and assistance.
In addition to traditional learning methods, here are several other techniques that SchoolhouseTeachers.com homeschooling families have used for years that you might want to experiment with in your temporary homeschool.
Charlotte Mason Method
The Charlotte Mason method teaches, “Education Is an Atmosphere, a Discipline, a Life.” This schooling technique relies heavily on exploring nature, developing good habits, and learning through thoughts and ideas, not just dry facts.
Classical Education
A Classical Education focuses on words rather than high-tech video games or imagery to convey concepts. It uses the Classical Trivium—grammar, logic, and rhetoric—while focusing heavily on knowing basic Latin to understand the workings of languages.
Literature-Based Education
Literature-Based Education is more than simply reading. It moves beyond the book and explores the context in which it was written, expounds on the intent of the author who wrote the piece, and allows for activities that children may use to retain what they have learned.
Multi-Level Teaching
Multi-Level Teaching allows the parent to kill several birds with one stone. Instead of teaching each subject to each child every single day, certain subjects are combined with advanced material required of older students and simplified materials used for younger students.
Unit Studies
The Unit Study approach in homeschooling allows the student to focus on one subject of interest at a time. The child will master one topic, such as plants, medieval times, or invertebrates through in-depth study including activities, reading, and projects. Once they have mastered the subject, they will move on to the next.
Kinesthetic Learning
The Kinesthetic Learning method is often used for special needs students or those with developmental or language delays. This method teaches students virtually any subject from math to geography with a hands-on approach.
Use this time at home to experiment with different learning techniques, and who knows? You might fall in love with one and want to continue home education for years to come. Temporary homeschooling families interested in a complementary Homeschool Starter Pack can pick one up at Tryhomeschooling.com.

Nationally Known Homeschool Speakers Offer Support Amid Pandemic
GRAY, TN, UNITED STATES, April 2, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Over thirty states have extended their initial school closings dates with at least seven states mandating closure through the end of the school year. With varying requirements for school districts across the nation, Oklahoma’s state board of education is mandating that all students continue their education with online learning, stating that this is the best way to educate students while their schools are closed.
The mandate occurred not long after a press conference in which President Trump recommended that “all Americans, including the young and healthy, work to engage in schooling from home when possible” (Edweek).
To help balance work and family while working remotely, companies are offering their employees support and advice through Zoom sessions and daily emails. Additionally, teachers are guiding their students through this transition either through weekly or daily contact.
Parents, businesses, and school systems are pulling together all possible resources to keep their heads above water during the COVID-19 pandemic, many even turning to homeschool organizations such as The Old Schoolhouse® for advice. The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine publisher Gena Suarez confirms, “Millions of parents have found themselves unexpectedly homeschooling in one form or another. We are getting questions. We are getting new signups daily over at SchoolhouseTeachers.com. What’s a family to do under lockdown? They’re all looking for answers.” To help provide these answers on a large scale, Suarez is hosting a free webinar on April 9.
Actress and radio show host Sam Sorbo will be joining Suarez and The Old Schoolhouse® for a Home Education: Am I Really Qualified? webinar. As the author of They’re Your Kids: An Inspirational Journey From Self-doubter to Home School Advocate, Sam resonates with the skeptical parent unsure about the journey ahead. One day she was sending her children to a highly ranked public school, the next she was taking on a new role, as their teacher, at home.
Other sessions for this live webinar include, Am I Qualified to Teach? by Hal and Melanie Young, Expectations/Keeping It Real by Todd Wilson, From Public School to Homeschool by HSLDA’s Dan Beasley, Curriculum for a Month by SchoolhouseTeachers.com’s Leigh Morrison, along with several other nationally known homeschool speakers. Complimentary access to online curriculum and print homeschooling material will be provided to eligible participants of this event. Limited seating is available at HomeschoolShow.com.
As the country explores options during the current pandemic, those who have homeschooled for decades are offering their time and resources to help, while parents who have been thrust into an unexpected predicament are finding answers.

TryHomeschooling.com Helps Families Create an Emergency Homeschooling Plan
GRAY, TN, UNITED STATES, March 17, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Some 300 million students are now forced to do their schoolwork at home, whether parents are prepared or not. South Korea, Italy, Iran, Japan, France, Pakistan, and India have shuttered their schools, and now that the COVID-19 virus has crossed the Atlantic, over 30 states are also requiring that K–12 schools close their doors. Several districts are even considering closing for the rest of the school year. While parents are scrambling to find childcare, emergency homeschooling solutions, and assistance in this time of crisis, online companies known for serving the homeschooling community are beginning to rise to the occasion.
“Although the sudden changes taking place might be difficult for many children, if parents stay calm and come up with a plan, this pandemic might end up bringing families closer together in the end,” states Gena Suarez, publisher of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine. “Our team of experienced home educators are ready and willing to provide resources, counsel, and assistance to any parent looking for structure in the upcoming days of uncertainty.”
Forbes has labeled it The World’s Homeschooling Moment, even though parents might not feel qualified or ready to homeschool their children. Families who have never otherwise considered homeschooling need not fear the term. If they have ever helped their children with their homework, then they have homeschooled. If their child has ever been out of school for several days at a time due to an illness or blizzard, then they have homeschooled. For years, teachers have been assigning homework and creating packets for students who need to be home for an extended time. Now, it is simply on a larger scale. TryHomeschooling.com provides free resources for families now thrust into the homeschool world. To help assist parents while their children are home for an extended time, SchoolhouseTeachers.com, an online homeschool curriculum platform, is welcoming anyone displaced by the COVID-19 related school closings to try their online courses. The following courses are a sample of the 400+ available on the educational platform for PreK-12.
Science
Simple science experiments, with videos, are available for elementary-aged children. Junior high and high school level video-based and text-based courses are offered including Biology, Advanced Chemistry, and Physical Science.
Unit Studies
Unit studies that can be completed over the course of a week or two can be found on our platform as well. Search around and find one that interests your child. These studies are fun, educational, and extremely hands-on.
Cooking
Have you been wanting to teach your child basic cooking skills? We have a variety of cooking classes that will keep your kids busy for hours!
Physical Education
It is suggested that children ages six to seventeen have at least sixty minutes per day of moderate to strenuous physical activity to stay healthy. Activities and exercises are provided for children in grades K–12. Encourage your children to get their heart rates up by keeping them busy, active, and fit.
Reading
In addition to the resource Teaching Your Child to Read in 101 Simple Steps, we have a book list available so you can stay up-to-date with grade-level and age-appropriate books for your child. We also have several poetry courses, a children’s literature course, and a course that explores Shakespeare, Dickens, and the Bible.
Art
From art history to hands-on messy fun, your children will have a blast exploring the variety of art courses. Painting, drawing, and digital art are just the tip of the iceberg.
At SchoolhouseTeachers.com you will find plenty of educational activities to use with your children in an emergency homeschooling situation. One price covers the entire family. Join 9,000 member families and be assured that your children are receiving a quality education.

Economic Growth Causes Companies to Hire More Stay-At-Home Moms
The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine sees the value of hiring home-based workers.
GRAY, TN, USA, February 25, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Twenty years ago, when a working mom had children, she had two options: quit her job or find childcare. Not so anymore. The digital age has given companies the option to allow their workers to take their work home with them. Many engineers, insurance claim adjusters, and designers have been working from home for the past decade while raising their families. Parents, while at home caring for their children, tune in via conference call or video call to take part in company meetings. Email is the primary source of communication. Hours are generally flexible, depending on the company.
Some of these families have even gone a step further and have chosen to home educate their children. Working from home and homeschooling might sound impossible, but many parents are finding that it can be done, and successfully. Home education allows for flexibility. The parent is the one taking the reins of their child’s education. They are the ones determining their child’s learning material, activities, and ultimately their schedule. This also allows them to schedule work and school throughout the day in a way that fits best for them.
According to Pew Research, 60% of Americans say children are better off when a parent stays home. Parents who do choose to stay at home to care for and educate their children have a wide variety of options even if their current job does not allow for home-based employment. As the economy continues to thrive, more companies are beginning to see the value of hiring home-based workers. The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine is one of those companies. Due to many parents pulling their children out of school this past semester, The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine has seen a boost in sales. “As the number of homeschooling families increase, we are seeing more people reach out to our company for help. As a result, we need to add more family-minded workers to our staff,” states Publisher Gena Suarez.

Parents Forced to Rethink Education Amid Coronavirus Outbreak
SchoolhouseTeachers.com provides an alternative educational platform easily accessible from home.
GRAY, TN, USA, February 25, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Awaiting instruction from public health advisors, schools in Brighton and Hove, England, have told parents they have the option to keep their children home from school with authorized absences. Five confirmed coronavirus cases have surfaced in the area. With a long incubation period of up to two weeks, it is concerning that schools are not advised to notify the school as a whole if a student or faculty member is undergoing testing. Information is only to be revealed if a case is confirmed (theguardian.com). This means parents are forced to make a decision that will have a long-term effect on their children. Do they risk sending them to school amid the current outbreak, or do they place education on hold and wait it out?
Parents who choose to keep their children home due to the outbreak need not sacrifice their education. Gena Suarez, publisher of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine, the parent company of SchoolhouseTeachers.com, encourages families across the globe to try the home education platform that has gained tremendous popularity in the US and Canada and is now expanding its borders. “Our international student base is growing like never before. We gladly accommodate students from across the globe and are here to help meet the needs of those who are choosing to finish the school year from home.”
The coronavirus, or COVID-19, has spread faster than previous outbreaks such as SARS or MERS. The virus has infected more people over the past few weeks than SARS did in several months. The death toll and the number of infected patients have already exceeded the 2003 outbreak. Recently declared a global emergency, the virus has spread from China to Singapore, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Taiwan. Australia, India, Africa, the UK, Russia, the US, and Canada all have confirmed cases.
A cure has not yet been developed and may take years to come to fruition. Meanwhile, each country is taking precautionary measures as they continue to learn more about the virus, how it is spread, and how it affects individuals. Parents who do turn to home education during this crisis can do so with readily available resources. TryHomeschooling.com provides help for families new to homeschooling.

More About SchoolhouseTeachers.com and Homeschooling
Technology Is Accelerating the Growing Global Tide of Home Education
The Old Schoolhouse®
The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine and The International Association for Creation come together to support homeschoolers.
GRAY, TN, USA, February 20, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- As a result of a magnitude 6.4 earthquake that hit Puerto Rico on January 7 (usgs.gov), 61% of the island’s 856 public schools remain shuttered even a month later. This situation has led to an increase in homeschooling in the area (thealpenanews.com). Puerto Rican families who never would have otherwise considered homeschooling now have no place to send their children and are thrust into alternative education options.
Chinese families are also forced to reconsider their schooling methods as authorities are calling on people to stay at home to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus. Fatalities are on the rise with over 2,000 deaths nationwide and over 80,000 confirmed cases reported (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/). China’s Ministry of Education has recently asked schools to use Internet platforms as an option for teaching students (techinasia.com). Some schools are providing education for their students at home, but what about the infected students in areas where this option is unavailable?
Throughout the US, families who envisioned their children thriving in public school from the day they first sent them on the bus until their senior prom, are also beginning to rethink their options. The School Crime Supplement (SCS) to the National Crime Victimization Survey reports that in 2013, about 22 percent of students surveyed, ages 12-18, reported being bullied at school (NCES.org). Parents who have sent their children to public school for years are now pulling their bullied children out, in their high school years, to home educate.
Parents across the globe are now facing unexpected circumstances forcing them to reconsider how their children are educated. Are the necessary tools available for the parent who feels unprepared for a sudden change in their child’s educational needs? Gena Suarez, publisher of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine, parent company of SchoolhouseTeachers.com, confirms there is: “The SchoolhouseTeachers.com platform was designed so a parent can come in at any point of the year and begin teaching their child material designed specifically for their grade level.” This online curriculum platform provides the tools needed for parents to home educate every single one of their children, in any country, at one low price, for the entire family.
Parents seeking additional assistance and support are invited to attend The International Association for Creation’s International Homeschool Day. Founder Steven Policastro has noted that registration is still open for this year’s event being held on Saturday, February 29. Intended to bring together the community of homeschoolers worldwide, this event may be streamed privately in homes or at a public location, such as a church.
Homeschooling families seeking community can easily connect, through online platforms, with qualified experts in the field via organizations such as The Old Schoolhouse® and The International Association for Creation.

Teachers Leave Schools to Form Alternative Education Option
Wave of Experienced Educators are Joining the Homeschool Movement
GRAY, TN, UNITED STATES, January 21, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- John Hofland, teacher with SchoolhouseTeachers.com and owner of ArtAchieve, began his career teaching junior high art, science, and language arts. Now he joins former nurses, authors, radio show hosts, a Corning Glass Works engineer, and former Travel Channel musician to teach online.
Parents with Master degrees, Bachelor degrees, and specialized certifications, have chosen to step away from their careers to home educate their children and provide instructional material for like-minded parents at SchoolhouseTeachers.com.
According to the Wall Street Journal, U.S. Labor Department data reveals that public school educators are quitting their jobs at record-breaking rates. Among those leaving, are teachers with children of their own. They are looking to provide a strong education for their children, at home. Qualified homeschooling parents are formulating quality curriculum options surpassing that of the public school system that allows parents the freedom to teach on their own terms.
Conservative parents do not need to fear drag queens reading to their children or sex education being taught without their permission. Gena Suarez, publisher of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine responds, “we believe parents are responsible for their child's education, not the state or local school boards. That is why we provide families with all of the tools necessary to teach PreK-12. We equip parents to teach every subject, every grade, and every student.”
Though regulations vary by state, homeschooling is legal in all fifty. Parents seeking to pull their children out of the public school system during the new semester can legally do so. Access to instructional material that will meet their needs can be found at SchoolhouseTeachers.com.

Vaccine Exemption Removal Forces Parents to Rethink Options
The Old Schoolhouse® Online Curriculum Provides a Safe Haven
FAITH NEWSWIRE – New York State signed legislation removing non-medical exemptions from school vaccination requirements for children this past June. According to NCSL, New York was the second of three states in 2019 to pass a law, forcing unimmunized children to receive vaccines in order to continue their school-based education. New York joined Maine who removed personal and religious belief exemptions in May. Washington followed in July, removing the personal belief exemption for the MMR vaccine. California, Mississippi, and West Virginia already had similar laws in place.
The New York Times reports that over 26,000 students statewide were forced to be removed from public and private schools in 2019. If not, parents were forced to move out-of-state or begin receiving CDC mandated vaccines, some of which are formed from aborted fetal tissue violating certain religious/personal beliefs.
Gena Suarez, publisher of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine explains, “Many parents who did not vaccinate in the past will not suddenly vaccinate their children because of this new legislation. Parents are already beginning to quit their jobs and rearrange their schedules to stay home and educate their children to avoid violating their beliefs.”
Private schools attest to this fact. Administrators at Cornerstone Christian Academy in Brockport, New York, report they are losing twenty percent of the student body because of the law. Its principal stated that these families are either turning to homeschooling or local college programs.
“We want hesitant families unsure about their ability to homeschool to know we are available to provide help and support,” says Gena. “Homeschooling may not have originally been their first choice, but we can ease them into it so they can ultimately thrive as home educators.”
Christian online curriculum options provide a safe environment for those new to homeschooling. SchoolhouseTeachers.com is an option that includes over 400 courses designed to make homeschooling easier on parents. Parents interested in paying one price to homeschool their entire family using SchoolhouseTeachers.com, can do so through the Fresh Start sale.
Parents who refuse to compromise on this issue need not leave their state. Homeschooling is a legal option. Visit TryHomeschooling.com for more information.

Colleges and Universities Want Homeschool Graduates!
They are turning to The Old Schoolhouse® to help find the best students
The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine exists to support homeschooling families, and that support continues beyond a student’s grade 12 graduation. There is a Higher Education Portal on The Old Schoolhouse® website that is helping homeschoolers make the transition from high school to the college and career phase of life. It features many articles that help families prepare for higher education, and a directory of more than fifty outstanding colleges, universities, and academies that have expressed a desire to enroll students who have been homeschooled.
Paul and Gena Suarez are the publishers of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine. Gena explains why homeschooled students are in great demand by post-secondary institutions: “They are most often advanced academically and do well with independent study. They have a good work ethic, model exemplary character, and reflect well on the institutions they attend.”
Homeschool students generally score higher than average on the SAT test. In 2014, the mean scores of 13,549 homeschool seniors were 567 in critical reading, 521 in mathematics, and 535 in writing. The corresponding mean scores of all college-bound seniors were 497, 513, and 487 respectively (Brian D. Ray, PhD, NHERI.org, June 7, 2016). With these scores, it is no surprise that colleges are actively recruiting homeschool students (Ray, January 7, 2019). In fact, all eight Ivy League colleges do accept homeschoolers (https://bit.ly/30QKsSL).
Paul and Gena are working hard to help facilitate connections between the best students and the best schools. “We encourage parents to check out the colleges and universities in our directory,” invites Paul. “They are listed there because they want your homeschoolers to attend. We also welcome schools that are looking for homeschool graduates to join our list.”
Articles in the portal include such topics as the preparation of high school transcripts, applying for college, adapting to college life, and choosing a career path.
The Higher Education Portal is one of the many ways that The Old Schoolhouse® company supports homeschooling families. Its famous trade publication, The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine, gives practical advice and encouragement in every quarterly issue. Its curriculum website, SchoolhouseTeachers.com, provides a full lineup of online courses for students from preschool to high school.
As homeschooling grows in popularity, more homeschool graduates are gracing the halls of higher education, and many have been helped along the way by The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine.

The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine is Recruiting Homeschool Bloggers
Applications are now open to join the 2020 Homeschool Review Crew
The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine loves to connect families with the best homeschooling products and resources on the market. A key way it does this is through the Homeschool Review Crew—a community of families that get to try out (and keep) a wide range of curriculum and other products. Each family receives these resources for free, in exchange for a personal review of each item on their established blog or vlog.
The Homeschool Review Crew is currently hosting a recruitment season for the 2020 crew. Interested candidates are encouraged to complete the online application form. Those who are selected for the team will be notified shortly before Thanksgiving. Throughout the year, members will be given approximately six weeks to utilize in their homeschooling each item that is under review. They will need to maintain an active blog or vlog, and be committed to writing and sharing honest reviews on their social media platforms.
Publisher Gena Suarez describes how this review process helps all the parties involved. “Vendors benefit from the increased exposure for their products, potential buyers are encouraged by the testimonials of fellow homeschoolers, and crew members are blessed by the opportunity to enjoy the latest and greatest teaching resources for free!”
Members of the Homeschool Review Crew receive two additional free benefits—a subscription to The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine, and a family membership to SchoolhouseTeachers.com, the full-curriculum website of The Old Schoolhouse®.
Interested homeschool bloggers and vloggers are encouraged to apply now, before all the spots are filled for 2020.

Bringing 120 pages of homeschooling help for families
Shoppers will soon discover homeschooling’s premiere publication gracing the shelves of another major retail chain. The Old Schoolhouse® is pleased to announce that it has accepted an invitation to partner with Walmart, which will carry the quarterly publication The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine.
Walmart joins a growing list of retailers selling the homeschooling community’s go-to trade magazine. Other vendors include Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Target, Walgreens, and Kroger grocery stores.
The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine (TOS) is published by homeschoolers for homeschoolers. Most of the people working for TOS are homeschooling moms and dads living in various parts of the United States and Canada. They work from home, communicating via computer and phone, to produce a product that helps and encourages families around the world.
Publishers Paul and Gena Suarez are the homeschooling parents who started The Old Schoolhouse® as a newsletter nearly two decades ago. “We are happy to be working with Walmart!” says Gena, who believes this will help to increase the number of home educating families. “When Mom picks up our magazine, she will see that she can do this! Outstanding resources are available to help her be a successful homeschool teacher.”
One such resource is SchoolhouseTeachers.com, the curriculum division of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine. One membership to SchoolhouseTeachers.com gives a family unlimited access to over 400 online courses, plus streaming videos and numerous teaching tools. During the August BOGO sale (on now), new members are purchasing their first two years for less than the price of one!
The company that publishes these print and digital resources to help parents teach their children “at home where they belong” is delighted to have a new home for its print magazine—Walmart!

Homeschool family membership is growing as parents sign up for $111 per year!
The season of spring cleaning and organizing is upon us as people go through their homes taking stock of what they have and evaluating what they need. This is also the time of year homeschooling moms take a “spring cleaning” approach to their teaching. They take stock of the kids’ progress in their lessons, recalculate how to finish by summer, and evaluate this year’s curriculum as they think ahead to next year.
Gena Suarez is a homeschooling mom and publisher of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine with her husband, Paul. “By this point in the school year, moms are thinking about changes they’d like to make next year,” explains Gena, “but they don’t need to wait until September to make changes. Moms and dads who love their curriculum become better teachers, and that’s why spring is an ideal time for parents to start using new resources. They can finish this semester strong and hit the ground running in the fall.”
To encourage spring renewal and growth in the homeschooling community, the Suarezes are holding an April Showers Sale at SchoolhouseTeachers.com, the curriculum division of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine. For the month of April, an Ultimate Membership (regularly $179/year) is being sold for $111 per year (code: ONES). This gives an entire family full access to more than 430 online courses (PreK-12), hundreds of streaming videos, and many superior teaching resources. For US customers, the annual membership includes a complimentary 2019–2020 Hey, Mama! Schoolhouse Planner—a great organizational tool that will ship in May. Monthly memberships are also on sale at $1 for the first month (code: ONEDOLLAR), renewing at $14.95/month.
Parents are encouraged to visit SchoolhouseTeachers.com and become members before these April Showers are over.

During the month of January, parents who visit the website can take advantage of the 2019 Fresh Start, New Year Special and secure an Ultimate Membership (Pre-K to Grade 12) for $9.95 per month or $90 per year. The prospect of unenrolling kids from school and teaching them at home can seem daunting to parents who are new to homeschooling, so Paul and Gena want them to know there is no need to panic. “You can do this,” encourages Gena, “and you will not be alone!”
Through SchoolhouseTeachers.com, Gena and Paul are making sure parents have all the tools they need to educate their children at home, and with January’s Fresh Start Special, they are going the extra mile to make sure families can afford it.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn., Nov. 14, 2018 /Christian Newswire/ -- Students paint their hands to make angel artwork. They visit a sheep farm to learn about the nativity. They create homemade gifts from photos they have taken. These are examples of great lesson ideas for Advent that parents can find in the Christmas Corner at SchoolhouseTeachers.com.
The Advent season begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day and continues until Christmas Eve. A Latin term for coming or arrival, "Advent" is a special time when Christians reflect on the first coming of Christ as a baby in Bethlehem and look ahead to His second coming as King. A major theme of the season is preparing for the arrival of the Savior.
Homeschooling parents understand the importance of preparation and are always on the lookout for lesson plans that will enhance their teaching. Our Christmas Corner has quality resources to enhance old traditions families celebrate during Advent, and great ideas for new ones. Spend time together creating works of art, writing poetry, sharing readings, and watching Christmas videos.
Parents love the resources at SchoolhouseTeachers.com and the advice in The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine. The Fall 2018 issue contains articles to help parents take the focus off toys and onto gifts that promote learning and encourage family time.
Because Christmas traditions make good teaching moments, SchoolhouseTeachers.com and The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine are assisting parents as they prepare for Advent, so that in December, they can prepare their family for the arrival of the Savior. The Fall Harvest Special enables families to sign up for a one-year membership for $139. This special offer will end two days before Advent begins, so joining now will help parents be prepared for their December lessons.

Great Civics Lessons are Available at SchoolhouseTeachers.com
JOHNSON CITY, Tennessee, Oct 16, 2018 /Christian Newswire/ -- Fall, mid-term elections are only weeks away. There has never been a more critical time to be informed about civics and how it applies to you and your family. This is the time for parents to sign up their children for great civics courses at SchoolhouseTeachers.com, and go out and vote.
“One criticism we sometimes hear about homeschooling is the idea that homeschooled kids are not socialized,” explains Gena Suarez, founder of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine. “Ironically, this is one reason many parents prefer to educate their children at home. They want their kids to change the world – not be molded by it. They believe that home is the best place to learn the social skills needed to make a positive impact on society as Christians, and SchoolhouseTeachers.com is the preferred place for families to find (and engage in) curriculum that will teach them the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.”
Children learn best by example, and when they are home, they can study Mom and Dad to learn, firsthand. As our nation prepares for the November mid-term elections, parents have a golden opportunity to model the importance of voting, and to teach lessons about citizenship.
SchoolhouseTeachers.com, the curriculum division of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine, is a valuable ally for parents who are intent on passing civics participation practices on to their children. With courses in Social Studies for all ages, students will learn the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of citizenship, and the importance of taking leadership courses.
This fall, parents have the opportunity to do two great things for their children: vote in the mid-term elections, and sign up at SchoolhouseTeachers.com. Home is the best place to teach children, and SchoolhouseTeachers.com is the best place to find resources that will teach them their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

Rising Popularity of Homeschooling Drives Demand For Industry Trade Magazines
JOHNSON CITY, Tennessee, Oct 2, 2018 /PR.com/ -- Homeschooling is once more on the rise and families are looking for resources to help them. Parents continue to seek reliable content to help them take charge of their children’s education, especially in the wake of school violence, bullying, and the failure of schools to meet academic standards. Parents also choose homeschooling as a way to pass on a legacy of faith and wholesome values.
Prior to entering the digital age in 2012, The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine supported over 20,000 subscribers, in addition to sales through large retailers and bookstores. Since that time, The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine has been regularly read by over 90,000 families using the free apps and online.
“We are returning to a subscription model in response to dramatic growth in the homeschooling market and to meet customer demand,” explained Gena Suarez, founder of The Old Schoolhouse®. “After almost two decades as the trade magazine for homeschooling families throughout the U.S. and more than twenty countries worldwide, The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine will return to quarterly printing as of the start of 2019 with a fresh new design focused on today’s homeschooling families.”
Subscriptions to The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine, beginning with the Spring 2019 issue, are available for $29/year. The magazine will also continue to be available from retailers around the country for a cover price of $9.95 per issue. Access remains free through the TOS digital app, as well as to members of SchoolhouseTeachers.com, the online curriculum division of The Old Schoolhouse® that offers more than 400 courses for preschool through high school, an educational video library, and a large variety of additional teaching and organizational to its members. The Old Schoolhouse® also reaches customers through “The Homeschool Minute” weekly newsletter, “Homeschooling with Heart” blog, and Homeschool Review Crew product reviews.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, “approximately 3 percent of the school-age population was homeschooled in the 2011-12 school year.” Homeschooling is on the rise. According to the National Home Education Research Institute, led by Brian D. Ray, Ph.D., there are “about 2.3 million home-educated students in the United States” as of spring, 2016. They further report that the number of U.S. homeschoolers is estimated to be growing at a rate of 2% to 8% per year, making homeschooling a more common choice for families nationwide and driving demand for industry trade magazines, like The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine.

Johnson City, TN, September 11, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Homeschooling parents share a unique set of experiences and concerns, leading many to reach out for like-minded individuals with whom they can interact. Social media options, with their fluctuating popularity and fleeting conversational format, often aren’t enough. SchoolhouseTeachers.com has responded to the need with a private forum just for homeschooling moms. Despite shifts in trendy social media platforms over the last 15 years, the discussion forum has endured. A private forum offers a stable secure option for facilitating conversations and lasting relationships around a focused common interest.
“At the foundation of The Old Schoolhouse® and SchoolhouseTeachers.com is the desire to build community. Moms want to know that they can talk about what they’re doing in their homes and receive real, ongoing support. They need encouragement, advice, tips on homemaking, and most of all, they need genuine relationships with other moms who understand. SchoolhouseTeachers.com developed the new forum to meet these needs,” said Bonnie Rose Hudson, Director of SchoolhouseTeachers.com. “Our forum offers the opportunity for members to return to ongoing conversations and search through specific categories for relevant information. Members’ comments and discussion topics also help shape future curriculum and resource offerings, which benefits members over the long term.”
Entrepreneur® supports the development of forums for reaching customers in a meaningful way. They researched where customers discuss companies and their products, revealing “forums [are] one of the main areas of conversation, either first or second most popular, for every sector we analyzed.”1 Social Media Today, devoted to analyzing and reporting the latest information in the social media industry, reported, “So, message boards are a cornucopia of engagement. People spend hours on message boards and forums.”2
The secure, private forum is available only to members of SchoolhouseTeachers.com, an affordable educational option featuring more than 400 self-paced courses for all grade levels. Features of the forum include: separate discussion boards for all ages and subject areas, boards just for encouragement and prayer, a board for recipes, one for special needs, one for discovering new resources and ideas, and finally, a board for all things homeschooling, where organization and other general topics are discussed. Moms no longer have to hunt all over the Internet looking for separate private groups to join in order to find support for everything. It’s all in one place exclusively for members of SchoolhouseTeachers.com.

Johnson City, TN, August 02, 2018 --(PR.com)-- While many homeschooled students get the summer off from regular classes, homeschooling parents never take a break from ministering to their children. Nor do moms stop looking for the best curricula to use in their teaching.
Around the world this summer, more than 7,000 member families are gearing up for the new school year, excited about the nearly 400 courses offered by SchoolhouseTeachers.com, a division of The Old Schoolhouse®. Students love the fun and informative lessons; parents love the way the subjects are based on a Biblical worldview.
“Some Christian families spend thousands of dollars each year on private school education, but not every family can afford that,” explained Gena Suarez, founder of The Old Schoolhouse®. “We developed SchoolhouseTeachers.com to offer families the quality of a private education at a fraction of the cost and designed the courses to not only help parents teach their children, but also to minister to them. Students learn Christian values while they are learning subjects like history, science, and language arts.”
Membership to SchoolhouseTeachers.com gives a family access to more than 380 courses and homeschool set up and planning tools, with no limit on number of children, or courses studied at a price of less than $20 per month. How is this possible? It begins with the determination of Paul & Gena Suarez, founders of The Old Schoolhouse®, that money should not prevent any child from receiving the best homeschool education. It is then made possible by the fact that everything members access is 100% digital. There are no textbooks to purchase, so no boxes need to be shipped to the home. All the resources are downloadable and printable.
The benefit of volume sales is another factor that allows savings to be passed on to the members. The rising popularity of homeschooling is helping to drive online homeschool education. Growing faster than expected, the online K-12 education market reached $67 billion in 2017 (Global Online K-12 Education Market Report 2018, BisReport, March 1, 2018). With over 7,000 member families and counting, SchoolhouseTeachers.com is pleased to be a leading player in a growing industry that is helping parents teach the next generation at home.

Gray, TN, August 11, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Homeschooling in this country is exploding. And family membership platform, SchoolhouseTeachers.com is excited to announce that it has grown to 340 courses, and more than 50 new courses are coming.
As an offshoot of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine, SchoolhouseTeachers.com debuted in 2012 as a supplemental help site with seven courses. It quickly grew into a full-fledged curriculum platform supporting thousands of families who choose to educate at home. Currently, there are 340 courses designed by nearly 200 curriculum writers from six countries on four continents. SchoolhouseTeachers.com’s vision is to provide a central place for homeschoolers to access the tools they need to excel in their homeschooling journey. More than 7,000 members and their families around the world are using the self-paced, family platform for homeschoolers.
“Never before have we had so many lesson designers creating new content for the site at one time. More than 50 new courses are currently being developed for release over the next six-to-twelve months, as well as new features and resources that will serve our members in new and exciting ways,” says Bonnie Rose Hudson, director of SchoolhouseTeachers.com.
Home educating families have access to high-quality, self-paced homeschooling resources that are grounded in a Biblical worldview. One membership serves the entire family, all courses are online, and no textbooks are required. Courses are available for preschool through 12th grade, including special needs support. Along with the courses, members have access to a library of streaming videos as well as World Book Online resources that help bring learning to life. There is plenty of parental help, guidance, and encouragement.
Katie Gilstrap of Bonney Lake, WA, says, “I like that multiple kids in multiple grade levels can participate at the same time. It saves us so much time, and the lessons are rich and leave plenty of room for independent research.”
In addition to their lesson designers, SchoolhouseTeachers.com has partnered with a number of educational providers including World Book, Drive Thru History, Vision Video, Day of Discovery, City on a Hill, Christian History Institute, and others to offer quality content.
SchoolhouseTeachers.com is an excellent option for homeschoolers to use as the core of their curriculum or for anyone to fill in gaps. With a wide range of courses and styles, it appeals to both homeschoolers and families who do not homeschool, as many of the courses can be used to supplement a child’s education. As courses continue to be added, SchoolhouseTeachers.com anticipates serving a record number of members and their families, both in the United States and around the world.

Gray, TN, December 09, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine reports that President-elect Donald Trump has named Betsy DeVos as his pick for secretary of the United States Department of Education. “Under her leadership, we will reform the U.S. education system and break the bureaucracy that is holding our children back,” Trump said at the announcement.
Home education will play a part in this reform. Homeschooling, with approximately 2.3 million home-educated students in the United States, is now bordering on “mainstream,” and may be the fastest-growing form of education in the United States.[i] The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine (TOS) is the trade magazine for this one-billion-dollar market providing homeschool encouragement and current, cutting-edge information for homeschoolers worldwide. As parents turn to home education to escape Common Core and other undesirable factors, TOS has an enormous homeschooling information package that can be claimed at no cost at www.TryHomeschooling.com.
DeVos – a businesswoman, education advocate and billionaire philanthropist – has backed private school voucher programs throughout the United States. She chairs the American Federation for Children, a private organization that works to expand school choice options across the country. DeVos has spent decades working for reforms in education as well as helping underserved children attain quality education.
In the spring 2013 issue of Philanthropy magazine, DeVos had this to say about homeschooling, “Homeschooling represents another perfectly valid educational option. We’ve seen more and more people opt for homeschooling, including in urban areas. What you’re seeing is parents who are fed up with their lack of power to do anything about where their kids are assigned to go to school. To the extent that homeschooling puts parents back in charge of their kids’ education, more power to them.”[ii]
In 2015, Congress passed the Every Student Succeeds Act which gives more power to the states in identifying schools needing improvement. DeVos’s position as secretary of education comes at a critical time of implementing this new law. DeVos echoed Trump’s stance on education when she said, “The status quo in education is not acceptable. Together, we can work to make transformational change that ensures every student in America has the opportunity to fulfill his or her highest potential.”[iii] She believes parents should be able to choose where their children go to school and that students shouldn’t be trapped in failing schools.
Michigan Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley agrees with DeVos’s appointment. “Betsy’s nomination shows that President-elect Trump is serious about building an education system that puts kids first and parents in the driver’s seat.”[iv]
Established in 2001, The Old Schoolhouse® (TOS) was founded with the goal of helping homeschool families gain the facts and inspiration they need to confidently educate their children at home. It has grown into one of the largest homeschooling-support companies in the world. TOS resources help home educators produce educated, well-adjusted students who are in high demand in the workplace as well as in colleges and universities across the country.

Gray, TN, November 13, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Homeschooling is on the rise. In the last six years, the number of homeschooling families has grown from 2 million to 2.3 million in the United States alone.1 Many factors contribute to the decision to homeschool – student safety, quality of education, special needs concerns, religious beliefs and values, etc.
As the number of homeschoolers continues to grow, and the vision of education expands, even the new United States President-elect, Donald Trump, has favorably acknowledged the homeschooling community and movement in campaign speeches around the country. Recently at the Family Research Council's annual Values Voter Summit, Mr. Trump stated, "School choice means that parents can homeschool their children. 100%."
Research shows parents are more than capable of educating their children at home. The parent/teacher knows what is being taught and has the freedom to educate per the child’s strengths, interests, and weaknesses. According to a survey of homeschoolers conducted by Dr. Brian Ray and the National Home Education Research Institute, homeschoolers consistently perform above average academically.2 These results are not based on, or related to, the parents’ education. Other research points to above-average SAT and ACT test scores for children who are homeschooled.
Home education isn’t new. In the United States, historical figures such as Abraham Lincoln, Booker T. Washington, Thomas Edison, and Frank Lloyd Wright were homeschooled. And now just might be the easiest time to educate at home. It is legal in all 50 states with requirements ranging from none to approval of curriculum and proof of the parent’s own education.
Homeschoolers spend approximately $600-900 per year per child on curriculum and other materials.3 Typically, curriculum is the biggest expense, but there are numerous ways to save money without skimping on your child’s education, including frequenting the library, buying used curricula, and utilizing online sources.
The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine is a resource for support and encouragement for homeschooling families. Printed annually and available in a free quarterly digital format online, or by free app for tablets and phones, this magazine features authors and columnists, experts in their fields, who provide quality content. The Old Schoolhouse® makes available at no cost an enormous homeschooling information package to be claimed freely at www.TryHomeschooling.com.
Another popular resource families have discovered is SchoolhouseTeachers.com, an affordable online curriculum platform hosting more than 300 courses designed especially for homeschooling students, pre K-12th grade. With its "Netflix-style" delivery (monthly membership fee), parents gain full access without limit to all the classes, report card generator, course certificates of achievement, an extensive media library powered by World Book, and hundreds of streaming videos, both educational and entertaining in nature.
To better understand homeschooling, pick up the free information package at www.TryHomeschooling.com, or contact The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine Publishers, Paul and Gena Suarez of Gray, Tennessee at Publishers@TheOldSchoolhouse.com or 1.423.444.5956.

Gray, TN, November 02, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine, a resource for support and encouragement for homeschooling families, is printed annually and available in a free quarterly digital format online, or by free app for tablets and phones. The Homeschool Review Crew is part of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine. The Homeschool Review Crew is a viral marketing network made up of homeschooling families that use, review, and share about home education products. Crew members must apply and applications are being accepted now.
A crew member must be a homeschooler and willing to use the review products with her students for about six weeks in her homeschool before writing a review.
Crew must have an active blog on which to publish reviews and have at least one social media platform. They will check in on the Review Management forum, have access to sample reviews, and are provided mentoring, a social media networking group, blog and social media tutorials, and lots of great opportunities.
In 2016, 75 total reviews were run, including products from some well-known companies like Homeschool in the Woods, Apologia Educational Ministries, Memoria Press, and Math U See, as well as products from lesser-known companies like Rocky Mountain Christian Filmmaker, Foreign Languages for Kids by Kids, Star Toaster, and ArtAchieve. It is possible to review full curriculum packages like Writing with Sharon Watson or a music program from Zeezok Publishing. Smaller curricular items like books from Carole P. Roman or a unit from Progeny Press are also reviewed. And some items, like audio dramas from Familyman Ministries and Heirloom Audio, personal care items from Koru Naturals, or games from Simply Fun and Chara Games, are just a lot of fun!
Crew Members can set their interests and limits on how much they can handle. Some Crew members reviewed 60 or more products in 2016. On average, reviewers completed three reviews per month.
After making sure all of the requirements are met, visit schoolhousereviewcrew.com to read more or apply. Questions can be directed to Debra Brinkman at dbrinkman@theoldschoolhouse.com.
As the number of homeschoolers and the diversity of curriculum continue to grow, The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine and the Homeschool Review Crew are in place to help home educators worldwide produce students that are in high demand in the workplace as well as in colleges and universities across the country.
Gray, TN, February 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine (TOS) has been the premiere trade magazine for homeschool families for over a decade. TOS has now joined the ranks of the digital revolution in magazine production while going from a quarterly publication to a monthly digital publication, offering its readers increased content and ease of accessibility.
By downloading on computers, Android-based smartphones, and Apple devices, the content can now digitally go wherever the reader goes. The company will soon release applications for digital readers such as Kindle Fire as well.
One of the main goals of publishers Paul and Gena Suarez is supporting homeschoolers worldwide, by tapping into technology’s outlet of information distribution that is quickly becoming the norm through digital media. Their commitment to bringing the best to homeschool families has prompted them to offer their publication as open access for viewing while they come alongside homeschool families with the most comprehensive and educationally rich content for their readers, and now in the most innovative formats.
Jennifer Bogart from Apps for Homeschooling (appsforhomeschooling.com) had this to say: “TOS is at the leading edge of the digital revolution and I’m thrilled that my copies of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine are now right on my Android tablet for easy reading, alongside access to blog posts and reviews. Reading TOS just became much more convenient for me with this new app!” Joaquin Fernandez, Producer of IndoctriNation the Movie, agrees: “Once again, The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine is leading the pack, this time by going digital and creating an App for Droid. I just finished reviewing the most recent issue and it works beautifully. Now I actually have something worth reading on my phone.”
Gray, TN, February 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Four years into publishing The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine (TOS), owners Paul and Gena Suarez recognized a need for an easy-to-use, Free, online community where homeschool moms, dads, kids, and grandparents could interact and launched HomeschoolBlogger.com (HSB). Within the first month of its existence, HSB hosted more than 30,000 visits.
By the first quarter of 2008, HSB was hosting almost 400,000 unique visitors and averaging more than 9 million page views monthly. Currently, HSB logs more than 500,000 page views per month, hosts about 11,000 new posts per month, and registers 25 new users daily. For many homeschoolers—both teachers and students—a visit to HSB has become part of their daily routine.
Obviously, TOS has identified—and met—a vital need within the homeschooling community. The success of HomeschoolBlogger.com has proven it.
So, why sell HomeschoolBlogger.com and its counterpart, HomesteadBlogger.com? “We’re narrowing our focus at The Old Schoolhouse®, and we’ve fulfilled our original goal: to provide a ‘mini blogosphere’ for homeschoolers around the world,” explained Gena Suarez. “It’s time to hand over the reins to someone else. We’ve simply decided to invest our time and resources in other opportunities that have our attention.”
The site almost exclusively uses open source code, thus effectively sidestepping most licensing fees. Last year HSB rolled out a brand-new platform on WordPress, which offers lots of bells and whistles. More than 140 themes are available, including plugins that provide both secure and feature-rich styling of any of the themes. The platform changes also enabled TOS to minimize maintenance costs and support time.
The current platform makes it possible for a new owner to easily assume control of the site on the existing server. Surprisingly, even if the new owner switched to a different server, migration should require downtime of 8 hours or less. The site could grow to power more than 8 million users before a rewrite or change in platform would be necessary.
HSB operates correctly within any current browser and operating system; therefore visitors can “come as they are” from their mobile devices, Wii, PSP, and others. Use of the Anti-Splog API automatically terminates accounts used for spamming, ensuring that the site quality remains high.
HomeschoolBlogger.com has, in essence, succeeded in creating an international virtual neighborhood of homeschooling families, a neighborhood supported entirely by advertising revenue, enabling users to enjoy the perks at no cost to them. As the billion-dollar homeschool market continues to grow, the potential for profitable expansion—for everyone—appears to be unlimited.
Interested buyers should contact the owners of HomeschoolBlogger.com, Gena and Paul Suarez, or the company’s Director of Marketing, Julie Nott, directly for more details (publisher@TheHomeschoolMagazine.com). HomesteadBlogger.com, a user-friendly, customized network for the homesteading community, is also for sale.
Gray, TN, January 28, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine, LLC - The Old Schoolhouse® (TOS) is taking the potential of the Internet to new boundaries. Promising “tips, tricks, and tools to enhance all phases of your homeschool journey from the preschool and elementary years to high school, college, and beyond,” their Homeschooling with Heart Schoolhouse Expo will feature sessions about the high school years and provide information for entrepreneurs.
Valerie McCafferty, a recent Schoolhouse Expo attendee, summed up her experience this way: “I can’t tell you how much more convenient it was to attend online. That was the most wonderful part of all. I didn’t have to pay for a sitter, could still answer my students’ questions, … didn’t have to drive anywhere, find or pay for parking, or sit in uncomfortable chairs. … I am so looking forward to the rest of the webinars!”
The weeklong 2011 Schoolhouse Expo will feature an impressive lineup of 16 dynamic speakers: authors, teachers, business owners, and researchers, and give participants an opportunity to ask questions and chat with other guests via the live text system.
Gena and Paul Suarez, owners of The Old Schoolhouse® and homeschooling parents of six children, are excited about the success of the Schoolhouse Expos: “We knew that online homeschool webinars would be great for our audience. They love being able to hear their favorite speakers, the Q & A sessions, chatting with other homeschoolers around the world, the discounts offered in our online vendor hall, the amazing freebie package, and of course the fun door prizes! It has been a winner for both our readers and our vendors!”
In addition to the privilege of attending approximately 20 live, hour-long sessions, all registrants will receive a one-year membership to the Homeschool Legal Advantage and a free will, valued at $65; 21 downloadable gifts worth more than $200; access to MP3 files of the sessions, for future reference; door prizes; access to a virtual vendor hall jam-packed with the market’s most outstanding vendors; and a whole lot of fun.
The Door Prize Extravaganza, in which prizes such as books, curricula, and games will be given away to guests, will be held on the final day of the Expo. The biggest prize offered will be a family vacation at one of the twelve Great Wolf Lodge locations in North America, a $450 value.
Expo speakers, all outstanding experts in their fields, include guests such as Dr. Brian Ray, President, National Home Education Research Institute; Dr. Susan Wise Bauer, writer and historian; Diana Waring; Carol Barnier; and Dianne Craft.
Tickets for the first Expo, held in 2010, were sold out within five weeks, with homeschoolers from around the world registering for the premier event. The Old Schoolhouse® reports that families who don’t conveniently live near a large homeschooling community have been particularly thrilled with the opportunity to attend a TOS Expo and interact with other homeschoolers - minus travel and accommodations expenses, of course. Tickets for the 2011 Spring Expo will go on sale on January 26, 2011.

Gray, TN, August 26, 2010 --(PR.com)-- It appears that in the U.S., homeschooling is the fastest-growing form of education, according to independent research conducted by organizations ranging from the National Home Education Research Institute (www.nheri.org), a nonprofit research and educational organization, to the federally funded National Center for Education Statistics (www.nces.ed.gov).
Let’s take a look at some of the evidence:
- “Homeschooling grew from 1.7% of the school age population in 1999 to 2.9% in 2007, a 74% relative increase over 8 years,” states Dr. Brian D. Ray of the National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI).
- A 2008 study found that “an estimated 2.0 to 2.5 million K–12 children were home educated in the U.S. during mid-2008,” statistics that were also confirmed by NCES.
- Last week, in their local news coverage, Chattanooga’s News Channel 9 reported: “In the last decade, the number of homeschoolers has far more than doubled, according to the Department of Education” (WTVC-TV, August 13, 2010).
The increasing popularity of homeschooling should not come as a surprise. Homeschooling, a term referring to “parent-led, home-based education,” is now bordering on “mainstream” in the United States. In a 2008 article, SaveMoneyHomeschooling.com stated: “If homeschooling continues to grow at 7–12% per year for the next 5 years, we could see the percent of homeschooling students increase to 5 million, which is about 10% of the total children in K–12 education.”
“Homeschooling high school is no longer uncharted territory . . . . There are a multitude of homeschooled graduates who are bearing fruit in the workplace, in the military, in their families, and in colleges across the country,” states the Home-School Legal Defense Association, an organization whose purpose is to “defend and advance the constitutional right of parents to direct the education of their children.”
Gena Suarez, publisher of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine, is not at all surprised by the increased popularity of homeschooling: “During the past thirty years, homeschooling families have proven that parents can do a better job than the public school—socially and academically. Homeschooling works; everybody wins.”
As the homeschooling movement continues to expand, and as graduates from among their ranks assume positions of leadership and responsibility in the United States, our nation will be watching. Most citizens would agree that our nation is in desperate need of wise, well-educated leaders: men and women of integrity, curiosity, strength, and courage. The fact that homeschooling is the fastest-growing form of education in our country may just offer our nation that hope we’re looking for.
About The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine: Soon to celebrate their 10-year anniversary, The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine is recognized as the premier magazine for homeschoolers. Their Fall 2010 issue will focus on higher education, featuring articles that discuss dual-credit programs offered by colleges and preparing teens for today’s job market.
