The Familyman

Hey, I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to defer to my wife again regarding the subject of homeschooling with babies and toddlers (like I know anything about the subject). Her advice is simple. Remember that there are many days where “the baby IS the lesson”, meaning it’s okay when the only schooling that gets done is caring for the baby. More important things are taught on those days than you can imagine. And, her other advice is to start your school day with the toddlers. Fill them up first by reading to them, giving them something to color and spending some time with them BEFORE you start schooling anyone else. They will play much more contentedly after that if they got first dibs on your time rather than the leftovers.I guess I do have one thing to add. Stop thinking about homeschooling, lesson plans, and schedules for awhile. You need to transition into holiday mode and think Christmas thoughts…and FUN!!! I’m telling you, this is the best month on the family calendar. There are so many activities and events that draw family together. For you Martha types, it’s a season of “preparation and serving.” As with homeschooling, sometimes in the celebration you forget what really matters. But remember, the holidays aren’t about turkeys, pies, gifts, or clean houses. It’s about giving thanks and enjoying God’s great gift of family and friends or in other words, relationships.

So, stop the old homeschool train and start the Holiday Express.

Have a wonderful Christmas month and be real,

Todd
