Acceptance and Contentment
When we are content with what we have and accept the way things are, we find ourselves at peace. Two of the reading selections for this month help to teach this. Lapbooking with Niki Coburn McNeil looks at the fable The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse. Through this story, young children can learn a great moral. Literature with Adam Andrews has been discussing Letting Swift River Go by Jane Yolen this month. Students can read about the emotions that Sally Jane feels as she returns to the place of her childhood, which she was forced to leave for the building of a dam. She struggles with conflict on a variety of levels but learns to accept things as they are and finds peace.
