Art – Studio Art for Teens

/ / Blog, Schoolhouse Teachers

SchoolhouseTeachers.com is privileged to partner with Sharon Jeffus, developer of the Visual Manna teaching method, as she brings us Studio Art for Teens. In this class geared toward high schoolers, middle schoolers, and students in upper elementary grades, students not only learn how to draw, but they learn how to appreciate art by examining paintings by the masters and reading excerpts by famous authors and poets that relate to that week’s topic. They learn new vocabulary, and they explore the Scriptures to see what God’s perspective is. There is a new lesson each month, which is replete with questions and activities to encourage critical thinking and allow for a greater understanding of the subject. Weekly lessons are not provided, but each lesson can be separated into smaller segments so that one work of art or one reading selection is completed two or three times a week and then the activities can be spread out over the course of the month. This affords the student more time to concentrate on his/her own drawing.
