Whether your child has an eye for beauty or you’d like to simply expose your child to beauty, you can enjoy Everyday Easels. This course discusses art in the context of other subjects to help those students whose interest in art may only be piqued by understanding the story behind the art or by approaching the art from another direction entirely. Each unit begins with a brief study of the art itself and includes hands-on activities to inspire students to become involved in the art and not simply be a spectator. More than 75 units provide projects and assignments for students in all grades. Maybe your child has an ear for music or you simply want to expose him to alternate forms besides his current choices. If It Isn’t Baroque . . . The History of Western Music with Michelle Martin will most likely include a musical option your child wouldn’t choose on his own. Students in elementary through high school study the history of music in the western world, beginning with music in ancient times in Egypt, Greece, Rome, etc., and progressing through Biblical times, Medieval times, the Renaissance, and modern music. Explanations are given to the student of the differences in the types of music, and instructions are given to make some of the instruments from ancient and Biblical times. Listening activities and activities to research more deeply are also included.
