What can you learn from a book? A great deal if you choose the right book. Two of our newest teachers know this well. Learning About Character Traits with Lynda Ackert is a course designed to help students in third through sixth grade begin to think about and discuss forty different character traits, both positive and negative, such as gratefulness, greediness, confidence, sincerity, fearlessness, persistence, and more. Students will be required to make connections to their own lives as well as to literature. Adventures with Books with Jennifer Smith is for the whole family. A new unit each month is based on a range of themes including holidays, authors, and many other topics. These units will include book titles and suggested activities. Then, you will read the books you choose and complete the activities that work for your child. The first themes for this course are Aesop’s Fables, Valentine’s Day, and President’s Day.
