Books, Books, Books!

Have you ever read The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde? Despite its status as a classic children’s tale, I somehow missed reading this beautiful story until this month when I read Niki Coburn McNeil’s Lapbooking lesson on SchoolhouseTeachers.com. What a beautiful story! I was so touched—and surprised—by the ending I wanted to share it with my family. Niki’s lapbook is a great way to share this story with your family, whether for the first time or not. Just print out the story text, templates, and activities, and move through it at your own pace. What a lovely way to spend a breezy summer afternoon!

There are many other ways to enjoy a good book and slip some learning into your summer, too! Have you explored Marla Schultz’s Literature Kits? There are eight titles to choose from, with more to come this fall. You can explore:

  • Call it Courage by Armstrong Wells Sperry
  • All-of-A-Kind Family by Sydney Taylor
  • Columbus by Ingri and Edgar Parin D’Aulaire
  • The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis
  • The Quiltmaker’s Gift by Jeff Brumbeau
  • The Year of Miss Agnes by Kirkpatrick Hill
  • Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell
  • Where the Red Fern Grows by (Woodrow) Wilson Rawls
