Classic Tales and Faulty Arguments

/ / Blog, Schoolhouse Teachers

During the month of May, Marla Schultz is reading Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls in her Literature Kits class. Students will learn about the author and the Great Depression, as well as hard work, and can enjoy hands-on activities with recipes and craft ideas that she provides. Niki Coburn McNeil is spending the month looking at the classic Rudyard Kipling tale, “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” in Lapbooking. This has been a favorite for generations, and your children can learn new vocabulary words and discuss concepts like hyperbole, personification, and onomatopoeia while creating their very own learning book. Logic with Lisa Duffy is a completed course that you can find on the Middle/High School tab. Students are taught to recognize informal fallacies so that they can become better communicators and less prone to deception. This is an excellent course for students who might be looking to take a speech and debate class in high school.
