Homeschooling with Heart Blog

Design and Build

/ / Blog, Schoolhouse Teachers

One of the wonderful things about homeschooling is that it gives children the opportunity to be creative, to really imagine and see their dreams come to life. Introduction to Architecture (with yours truly) is a course that allows us to marvel at the visible outcome of others’ dreams, from ancient buildings like the Parthenon to the tallest building in the world. This month, I will be discussing the ancient city of Petra and the Great Wall of China with middle and high schoolers. A special Christmas edition will include the architecture of the gingerbread houses. This will be a wonderful opportunity to design and build your own structure, which can be enjoyed by family and friends. For the younger crowd, elementary through middle school, Ed Sobey’s Tinkers* Club is an exciting and engaging course that provides detailed instructions and graphics for building things like catapults, boats, and flying saucers. Students can also learn about wheels, cars, and LEDs. Ed encourages creativity through nine separate lessons that give children the chance to use their hands as they learn.
