Charlotte Mason believed in educating the whole child, not just the mind of the child. Those who teaching using her methods include activities and lessons that strive to produce a well-rounded individual. Parents can learn more about this method through SchoolhouseTeachers.com with Charlotte Mason Homeschooling. Cindy West has provided 16 weeks of instruction designed to help parents interested in learning how to implement aspects of the Charlotte Mason method into their homeschooling. These lessons will discuss how to encourage curiosity and enthusiasm, while at the same time expecting excellence in many areas. Learn about using living literature as education; developing short lessons; including narration, copywork, and dictation, in addition to poetry and Shakespeare. Nature study, handicrafts, life skills, a love for the Word of God, and habit training are stressed as well. This instruction can be put into practice with Charlotte Mason Preschool with Brittney Jordan. Suggestions and ideas are provided for parents looking for age-appropriate activities that are compatible with the Charlotte Mason philosophy. There are six self-contained monthly units that discuss snow and ice, birds, weather, insects, gardening, and colors in nature. Each lesson contains 3-4 activities related to handicrafts, art, and living books.
