What kind of worm do you want in your house? A bookworm! Do you have one? I do! My daughter loves to read, but I wasn’t sure she’d ever get to that point. I also have a son who would be happy if he never had to open another book. All of our kids reside somewhere on the spectrum of loving or hating to read. Perhaps they don’t enjoy reading because they struggle with it. SchoolhouseTeachers.com has tried to help by providing various options. Literature with Adam Andrews is currently working through The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis. Adam provides a plethora of questions that can be used by the parent to facilitate discussion about elements in the story such as conflict, setting, plot, theme, characters, literary technique, motif, and more. All of the previous lessons, which include reading selections like The Velveteen Rabbit, Treasure Island, and The Great Divorce are accessible in the archives. Start anywhere you choose with these archived lessons; there is no specific order. If your child struggles to read, you can join Matthew Glavach in Reading Lessons. This resource is located under both the Pre-K/Elem tab and the Middle/High School tab. Matthew has provided three different labs for struggling readers: analytic reading lab, global reading lab, and a middle and high school reading lab. Find the right path for your child and begin the journey to better reading skills. Previous monthly units are accessible in the course archives, so you won’t miss any lessons.
