Math is a multifaceted wonder! With each new math concept we learn, we can understand our world a little bit better. It has application to nearly every subject. There is math in music, art, science, and Bible, just to name a few. Students can turn to SchoolhouseTeachers.com for help with their math skills. Pre-Algebra with Charlene Johnson is geared toward middle school students. There are 40 weeks of lessons that include printable instructions, worksheets, and answer keys. Topics such as decimals, fractions, percents, integers, exponents, and equations are discussed. Each individual unit is broken down into four weeks: Week 1 is designed to teach the facts about the new topic. Week 2 will help students expand on those facts and associate them with previously learned facts. Week 3 will help students learn to apply these new facts to real-world situations, and week 4 will serve as a review. Statistics with Kathy Lapan is designed for middle and high school students. Five monthly units with an additional lab help students understand the statistics they are faced with in everyday life and how to reliably interpret them. The course includes monthly slideshows with weekly assignments and covers an introduction to statistics, vocabulary, normal distribution, graphs, scatter diagrams, pie charts, standard deviation, the “68-95-99.7 Rule,” slope, uses of slope, the equation of a line, demographics, sample, and sample size, and also looks at the use of statistics in such things as presidential politics and TV ratings.
