Do you have a budding writer? Perhaps you have a student who doesn’t like to write. Either way, there are numerous writing courses on SchoolhouseTeachers.com that can help. Creative Writing with Carrie Daws includes 24 lessons geared toward middle and high school students. She discusses the idea of writing fiction, character and scene development, writing dialogue, fiction guidelines, and the ultimate goal of getting published. Writing with Janice Campbell is a course designed for students in all grades. Janice will help your student recognize excellent writing and understand various literary terms and techniques. The course will also have the student learning new vocabulary words. Each work of literature is a four-week process whereby the student will do copywork, analysis, transformation of the work copied, and finally create their own work. Short classical works of literature are included, as well as an introduction to the various literary devices, questions for further discussion, and encouragement to create independent works of literature. More than a dozen self-contained monthly units are available.
