blog heritage and history

Columbus Day has come and gone, but you can still learn all about him in American History for Beginners. This fabulous course is new to SchoolhouseTeachers.com and is geared toward elementary students. Taught by Jennifer Dodrill, this thirty-four week study of early American history begins with Columbus’ discovery of the New World in 1492 and ends with the creation of the Bill of Rights in 1791. Students will learn about the founding of Jamestown, Pocahontas, the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving, as well as the role of faith in the Colonies, the history of the American flag, and more. As you read the text and complete vocabulary words, pictures, crafts, maps, games, speeches, and even some recipes, you’ll be glad your elementary students give you a good reason to have this much fun with history! Since you’ve already stepped back in time, why not enjoy Heritage Crafts with Courtney Ward? Courtney teaches us various life skills people in the past used to create art and live productive lives. The whole family can learn these skills by making cornhusk dolls, writing with quills, making ink, drying apples, making candles, and more. Printable weekly lessons provide step-by-step instructions.
