History for the Wee Ones

/ / Blog, Schoolhouse Teachers

ABC with Me is a fun weekly series found under the Dailies tab. As children learn their letters, they also learn about the lives of historical figures. A was for Abraham Lincoln, and Z will be for Zachary Taylor. Children are presented with facts and fun activities, like visiting an online museum, to help them remember what they’ve heard. Being able to place a particular person with that week’s letter will help them to remember their alphabet as well. Figures in History continues the history education for children in preschool through the elementary years. Cathy Diez-Luckie teaches children about heroes and heroines from the past with hands-on activities. They can make standing cutouts to put on plays and/or reenactments of the material learned. Word search puzzles and coloring pages are provided, as well as an “Accent on Art” where students will take a look at a piece of art related to the hero or heroine or learn about a method that was prominent during the time when he/she lived. This month’s hero is Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson.
