Let the Little Ones Learn

/ / Blog, Schoolhouse Teachers

Charlotte Mason Preschool with Brittney Jordan has spent the better part of the month discussing colors by looking at colors in nature, learning about the color wheel, and reading the poem “What is Pink?” During the last week, she will be teaching children how to recognize common bird species. Each of the lessons provides students with a variety of activities to enhance learning—nature study, art, early academics, and crafts. What could be more fun for young children than painting with shaving cream? (You’ll find that in week three.) Nature/Outdoors with Erin Dean is currently on a break, but there are some very interesting lessons on bears and ants; squirrels and snakes; wild birds, wolves, and coyotes; and creeks. Each lesson is different. Sometimes Erin provides a video to watch or a website that discusses various aspects of the animal or she has students make a craft. Often they are encouraged to go outdoors and view an animal in their native habitat, if it is safe, of course. If you didn’t have preschoolers when Sensory Learning for Toddlers with Beth Gorden was active but do now, you can access lessons that have been completed so that your children don’t miss out on this fun class. Each lesson focuses on a letter of the alphabet using books, activities, crafts, math and science skills, language arts skills, and play.
