Literature from Different Views
How we understand what we read is typically based on our own viewpoints. Two of our newest literature courses will challenge those viewpoints. African American Literature with Bethanie Frank is an 18-week advanced high school literature course that will explore the literary traditions of African American literature through poetry, short stories, essays, drama, journals, and other written forms. Students will engage in a variety of learning through various audio/visual resources and multi-media technologies designed to cultivate an understanding of the themes of African American literature. Worldviews in Literature with Dr. Steven Hake is another 18-week high school course. This course examines worldviews and how they manifest themselves in literature. Dr. Hake will challenge students to look at how authors have answered the “big questions” of philosophy through books by authors including Dickens, Hemingway, Huxley, and more. In addition, The Universe Next Door: A Basic Worldview Catalog by James Sire will be read.
