Living History

/ / Blog, Schoolhouse Teachers

Did you know that history is a subject that can be taught using a hands-on approach? SchoolhouseTeachers.com has classes that do just that. Led by Sharon Gibson, Hands-On History is found with the supplementary curriculum under both the Pre-K/Elem and Middle/High School tabs. Sharon is spending the months of November and December looking at Thanksgiving through the events surrounding the first Thanksgiving in the New World, including the Separatists, the voyage on the Mayflower, and what the first Thanksgiving was like for the Pilgrims. She’ll also be spending time exploring a Victorian Christmas and Charles Dickens. Classical Archaeology with Regan Barr is a course designed for middle and high school students and covers a total of 17 weeks. Regan takes a detailed look at the riot that took place in Ephesus during the first century, the original Olympics, Pompeii, and some inspiring architecture, including the Parthenon, the Pantheon, and the Basilica. Students will enjoy taking a look at Regan’s own photos from his travels of the very same regions and structures that he discusses in this course.
