Making the Connection
The more time I spend writing these blog posts to let you know about the courses on SchoolhouseTeachers.com, the more I am struck by how the classes we offer work together so well. Take Filmmaking and Photography. These are elective courses that are enjoyable and will teach your student a great deal. Filmmaking is taught by George Escobar, Advent Film Group’s cofounder. He provides detailed video instruction during this 35-week course for middle and high school students as he discusses things like basic story structure, casting basics, choosing a camera, principles of composition, and image resolution, just to name a few. He also discusses a career in filmmaking. Michele Peterson teaches concepts of photography to children (and parents) of all ages. Her text-based lessons include her original photography. Michele covers topics like the functions of the camera, composition and elements of design, stretching your skills, and more. Did you see how they both talk about the camera (obviously) and elements of design? One class will benefit the other. Now, think about all of the art classes we offer and how learning the concepts in those will help with photography and filmmaking. Maybe your child wants to start their own photography business. Well, we’ve got courses for that, too! You don’t have to look too far to see the connections.
