We’ve probably all heard some tall tales, stories that are too grand to be true. We’ve most likely heard tales that sound like they could be real but aren’t. Students in middle and high school will have the opportunity to read and learn about myths and other such stories in American Folklore. Cheri Blomquist introduces students to the wide variety of folk stories that comprise our nation’s history as well as connect it to the stories of many other nations and peoples. A wide variety of literature will be read, and students will complete their own written project as well. Some specifics topics that will be discussed include mythology, legends, spooky stories, nursery rhymes, spirituals, animal tales, trickster tales, fairy tales, folktales, cowboy lore and ballads, fabled creature sightings, parables, and urban legends. Another story that warrants being cleared up is that of the dinosaur. Patrick Nurre is teaching Dinosaurs and the Bible for students in elementary and middle school. Through this exciting sixteen-week course, presented from a Creationist worldview, some of the myths and mysteries surrounding dinosaurs will be dispelled. Weekly audio slideshows and downloadable worksheets will be provided so students will know how to defend their beliefs as Christians regarding these creatures.
