Now and Then, Here and There
SchoolhouseTeachers.com has a variety of social studies courses that will introduce students to people who live now and people who lived in the past, people who live in America and people who live on the other side of the world. American History: Colonization Era with Amy Puetz is a history course geared toward elementary and middle school students. They will learn about the founding of the American colonies, beginning with Jamestown in 1607 and covering the colonial period through the French and Indian War in 1759. Sixty daily lessons provide written text with stories of heroes and heroines of the past, Scripture memorization, geography, writing assignments, art, authentic period recipes, and more. Asia: Its People and History with Bonne Rose Hudson provides elementary and middle school students with a glimpse of what it is like to be a Christian in Laos, Bangladesh, Nepal, China, Iran, Indonesia, and Vietnam. A brief history of the country, along with what life is like for Christians in these countries and ways to pray for the persecuted Church, is provided. Short stories, nonfiction accounts, worksheets, puzzles, and games bring this information to life with the hope that the student will recognize the need to pray for the persecuted in Asia and around the world.
