Preserving History
What if history came to life before your very eyes? I’ll bet you and your children would remember it . . . maybe not those pesky dates, but definitely the people and events. Many of the history classes on SchoolhouseTeachers.com strive to bring that history to life for the students. Consider Classical History with Jennifer Courtney. Jennifer helps elementary and middle school students understand the people groups mentioned in the Bible and the primary civilizations of the time, such as Greece and Rome. Simply knowing the context and the culture of the time period will allow history to make more sense. This 29-week course uses written lessons, slide shows, and videos, along with reading assignments and activities. Some of the lesson titles are the Assyrians, Babylonians, The Exodus, Founding of Rome, Jews Rebuild the Temple, Golden Age of Greece, Persecution Spreads the Gospel, Constantine Legalizes Christianity, and The Fall of Rome, among many others. Film companies recognize the public’s love of inspirational historical fiction and are beginning to produce high quality films that draw us to the box office. What if your children could produce those types of films, the God-honoring historical fiction that provides an alternative to the usual Hollywood offerings? If they have shown any interest in this career, they can join George Escobar for Filmmaking. George is a cofounder of Advent Film Group and has provided a 35-week course detailing the world of filmmaking. Instruction is presented via video and assignments at the end of each video. Middle and high school students can earn one full credit upon completion of the course. Students will gain working knowledge of basic story structure, screenplay format, casting basics, choosing a camera, principles of composition, image resolution, lighting, and more.
