Description

Botany: Plant Science and Field Studies is an engaging nine-week curriculum designed for seventh through tenth grade students, offering an in-depth exploration of the plant world. Throughout this curriculum, students learn about the various parts and functions of plants—including roots, shoots, leaves, stems, fruits, and flowers—while exploring topics such as plant reproduction, growth, classification, and the different environments in which plants thrive. Students also investigate plant defenses, conservation, and the fascinating adaptations that enable plants to survive in diverse habitats.

Through a combination of text-based lessons, vocabulary-building activities, experiments, and quizzes, students gain hands-on experience with botany. They will also participate in field studies to observe plants in their natural environments, making the learning process interactive and practical. As part of the curriculum, students create their own herbarium, a scientific plant collection, which helps reinforce their understanding of plant classification and botanical methods.

In addition to regular lessons, students will keep a journal to track vocabulary words, record observations, and write short responses to questions, further deepening their comprehension of the science of plants. By the end of the curriculum, students will have a greater appreciation for the role plants play in our lives, laying the groundwork for future studies in botany and plant science. This curriculum is ideal for homeschool students looking to connect scientific concepts with real-world applications through active learning.

Students who complete all the high school level lessons, assignments, and tests in Botany:Plant Science and Field Studies may earn 0.25 academic credit. As always, please check your own state’s academic requirements.
