Discovering Art History is a nine-week homeschool curriculum designed for fourth and fifth grade students to deepen their understanding of historical art styles and explore various careers in the field of art. Throughout the lessons, students will learn to identify and categorize artwork by style, subject, and artist while gaining insight into notable artistic movements such as naturalism, romanticism, impressionism, modernism, and more.
Each week, students will study key artists, including Norman Rockwell, Claude Monet, Mary Cassatt, Georges Seurat, Leonardo da Vinci, and many others. They will explore a diverse range of artistic styles such as realism, cubism, surrealism, pop art, and abstract expressionism, practicing each style through hands-on projects. Classic art may need to be previewed before showing students if parents have concerns.
This curriculum also introduces students to various careers in the art world, helping them connect their artistic interests with potential future opportunities. Along with the lessons, students are encouraged to use art-related books from libraries to further enhance their learning experience.
