Putting Your Thoughts Together
There probably aren’t too many things in history that have caused as much emotional and political upheaval as slavery. It is no secret that slavery continues to this day. Kurt Hoffman has tactfully handled this topic in Social Justice, a 16-week course available on SchoolhouseTeachers.com for middle and high school students. The course is comprised of videos, reading assignments, vocabulary, reflection, and critical thinking exercises designed to educate, enlighten, and empower young people to become modern-day abolitionists. It educates students on the issue of modern-day slavery and human trafficking and compares and contrasts it to historical slavery. It encourages the student to think critically about why slavery is wrong and empowers them to serve alongside others working toward the abolishment of modern-day slavery. If your student plans to take this class, you can use the digital Schoolhouse Planners that are free to members of SchoolhouseTeachers.com to keep track of it and any other courses during the 2015-2016 school year. Planners are available for Special Learners, Primary, Intermediate, and High School. The “Hey Mama” Planner is also available.
