Architecture lessons are now available for children in elementary through high school! With the debut of Hands-On Architecture with Amy Gillispie in May, elementary and middle school students can design and build structures, homes, and zoos. Amy provides step-by-step architecture lessons using many different mediums. Twenty-seven weeks’ worth of lessons will be broken down into three units. Unit 1 deals with structures and introduces students to lines, planes, and shapes; building with food; building with wood; and more. Unit 2 will lead students through the design of their own home, and Unit 3 will lead students through the design of a zoo. Printable lessons and multiple project assignments are included. Middle and high school students can learn about the history and the science of structures around the world in Introduction to Architecture. Course work includes text lessons, videos, projects, and the occasional research paper. If all assignments are completed in Introduction to Architecture, it is worth 0.5 history credit and 0.5 science credit. Throughout the month of June, we will be discussing some of the tallest buildings in the world and some of the most amazing houses of worship.
