Speak Out
Students often wonder how they can be heard above the noise, above the voices that speak against what they believe in, what they know to be right. Two of the courses on SchoolhouseTeachers.com are designed to help middle and high school students with that very issue. Social Justice with Kurt Hoffman uses videos, reading assignments, vocabulary, reflection, and critical thinking exercises to educate, enlighten, and empower young people to become modern-day abolitionists. It educates students on the issue of modern-day slavery and human trafficking and compares and contrasts it to historical slavery. It encourages the student to think critically about why slavery is wrong and empowers them to serve alongside others working toward the abolishment of modern-day slavery. Public Speaking with Rebekah Bell covers impromptu speaking, expository speech, informative and current events speeches, and interpretative speech. Your student will be taught how to write a memorable speech, and he/she will grow as a researcher, performer, and speaker. Using a video format, along with informative websites and activities that include writing and performing, your student will learn how to use his/her voice and may just be able to speak above the clamor and bring light to injustice.
