Relational Homeschooling
Dear Friends,
Being really organized is often overrated, but there are times when it can be really helpful. And January is one of those times.
It is so easy to develop a good case of the mid-Winter blahs as we enter a new year. All the gorgeous lights and pretty presents are gone, and the ground is brown/white/drab with sleeping trees. Looking out the window this month is not nearly as much fun as it usually is …
So, what do we do while we wait for green??
Well, for me, one of the best antidotes to mid-Winter blahs is to organize something that has been messy for months. It could be as small as the catch-all drawer (which caught more than it can hold!) or as big as an office (which is what I did at the first of the year!).
There are more books and programs telling you how to get organized than you can shake a stick at, so if you need inspiration, visit your library for some free (and returnable–non-cluttering) materials. For me, it is so liberating to finally roll up my sleeves and dive into the mess. Good music helps . . . as does a large garbage can. Throwing away endless bits of this and that, things I just didn’t take the time to deal with before, begins to lighten the space and brighten the mind. It feels GOOD to get rid of that nagging sense of unfinished chores–and enjoy a deep sense of satisfaction–when the world outside your door seems so seasonally dreary.
Rather than feel guilty, why not just do ONE little bit of organization, and see if it helps to defeat the mid-Winter blahs!!
Remember, stay relational.

“I look forward to THM every Wednesday. I really enjoy Deborah’s articles. For some reason, it must be God, she always writes about what I am needing to hear. Her ability to put scripture and God in the middle of all her articles keeps me coming back. I recently have been enjoying the Youngs’ [articles] because I have a young man (10) in my house. The encouragement of the Youngs is fabulous. I thank God for parents like them that pave the way for parents like myself and my husband.”

“Thanks ever so much. I love the encouraging articles! I really loved the list of 25 all in one place. Nice to have this little bit of “free” encouragement in my mail. I don’t have funds to subscribe or purchase frills and with also working more than half time I don’t have time to search it out. May God bless you exceedingly.”
