When we think of a foundation, we typically envision a building of some sort, perhaps a house or a skyscraper. A foundation, however, must exist in many different places—our spiritual lives, our education, and even our country. Early American History with A.K. Fielding is a 16-week course for middle school students during which they will study America’s beginnings by taking a close look at the people who founded America and the documents and writings they left behind. Weekly lessons will incorporate geography, history, art, Scripture, formal writing, and more. The basis of the course is to introduce students to historical research by studying America’s founding. Of course, we couldn’t talk about foundations without mentioning Introduction to Architecture. This is a 37-week course for middle and high school students during which we look at various structures: bridges, skyscrapers, tunnels, dams, worship buildings, and more. Students will learn a great deal about the history of architecture, the difficulties that were faced during construction of these structures, and the science behind them. Hands-on activities, videos, and additional reading are encouraged, especially for high school students taking the class for academic credit.
