The Power of Words
Words can heal, and they can tear down. SchoolhouseTeachers.com is committed to teaching students how to speak and write words that encourage and heal. We are committed to helping you guide your children as they learn how to express their thoughts and ideas. Public Speaking is a five-month course for middle and high schoolers taught by Rebekah Bell, an experienced public speaker who has placed in numerous competitions at state, regional, and national levels. This course looks at impromptu, expository, informative/current event, and intrepretative types of speech, as well as the style and substance of each. She also teaches students how to make an impact in the world by writing and presenting memorable speeches. Carrie Daws is teaching Creative Writing to the middle and high schoolers as well. Her topic is the modern fiction genre, and she discusses writing techniques, character development, scene development, writing dialogue, and learning how to edit your own work to keep yourself out of the rejection pile. It is recommended that students taking this course proceed in sequence, beginning with the first lesson—Why write fiction? Student will come to understand that their words, whether in speech or in fiction, can have an impact in the world.
