Aviation Museums Across Canada

Visiting an aviation museum is great at any time of the year, whether as a field trip or planned as part of a family vacation. With a variety of planes and history found at aviation museums, family members of all ages will find something of interest and acquire knowledge in a new area.

Studying aviation can be done as a unit study and included as part of several subjects. In fact, delving into aviation can open up learning in

  • Science: Learn about how aerodynamics and the way a plane is built allow for the most efficiency while in flight. Talk about and study how weather patterns — wind, clouds, and more — affect flying and flight directions.
  • Technology: Research what technology and equipment is used to fly a plane and maintain a plane.
  • Engineering: Discover what role engineering has in aeronautics. How has the design and construction of and the materials used in making airplanes changed and improved over the years?
  • Art: Practice and hone art skills by drawing or painting a plane.
  • Math: What kind of math and calculations or equations are required to build or fly a plane?
  • History: Discuss the history of the invention of the plane and the use of planes throughout historical events in the 20th century. Who were some of the first pilots?
  • Careers: Talk about the many careers in aviation such as a pilot, flight attendant, air traffic controller, flight instructor, and plane mechanic. If your children have an interest in aviation careers, look into the education requirements for the career they would like to pursue.
