Raising our children is a blessing and awesome responsibility. Most parents enjoy every moment of those early years and encourage their child in various areas of learning. Unfortunately, when children reach the age of 4, they are considered to be better off in an institutional setting to continue their learning, and many parents don’t even consider how they are missing out on the biggest blessing of raising children.
Homeschooling with confidence doesn’t come naturally for most, but when you have the conviction to be the main influence over your children, then educating your children becomes as easy as learning any new skill.
This ‘skill’ of teaching will most likely also make your parenting role much easier. When your children aren’t in a school setting, they don’t have the influence that is usually conflicting with what your family values are. Children who attend school are spending more of their waking hours away from parents than with them. When you shift that dynamic and have them at home more, you now have better control of what influences them.
There’s no common phrase that says raising a family is easy, but there’s quite a lot said about the importance of family and putting family first. As Psalms 127:3-5 tells us:
“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.”
Your “heritage of the LORD” is worth the time and effort it takes to raise your children in all areas of their life. With the support and resources available to you through various avenues, you never have to feel alone when it comes to giving your children a top-quality education, which is leaps and bounds better than they will get in any institutional setting. Homeschooling with confidence is done by knowing that you are the best teacher for your children in every way.
It’s also quite helpful to have an abundance of resources guiding you in the best way to educate your kids. At The Old Schoolhouse®, you’ll find everything you need for your family life of learning.
