The Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie

What child doesn’t love a warm, chewy chocolate chip cookie? To be honest, as a parent I love these too! I love their taste, but I also love that in 20 minutes or less I can have something whipped up that my kids and their friends are going to love and enjoy. I think coming in from outside to bite into a warm chocolate chip cookie is a childhood rite of passage!

There are oodles and oodles of chocolate chip cookies out there. Type that phrase into a search engine, and you’ve got hundreds at your fingertips. If you’re anything like me, you wonder what differentiates them. Which one is the best? I just want a simple recipe to make for my kids with ingredients I have on hand. Look no further! This is a time-tested, kid-approved recipe for chocolate chip cookies with no fuss or fancy ingredients!

TIP: Did you know that you can make brown sugar with 2 simple ingredients? If you are missing brown sugar for this recipe, make your own! Dump 1 cup of white sugar into a bowl and 1 TBSP molasses. Mix to combine and voila! Brown sugar!

Anyone who has moved knows that all ovens cook a little differently. So once you make this recipe, you will know how long they need to cook in your oven! I like to take them out when they are just lightly browning around the edges and still look a little under done and then let them firm up for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a cooling rack. I like my cookies soft and chewy, and this works perfectly.

If you run into some trouble, maybe this chart will help you troubleshoot!

You can always get a little creative with what you put in instead of chocolate chips! Some of our favourites are Smarties, Mini Eggs, Reeses Pieces, and a mix of white and milk chocolate chips! You could even mix the dough up and then split it into different bowls and let your children make their own flavours!

These will disappear fast when they come out of the oven! Enjoy!
