Use Your Experience to Bless Others
There are teachers on SchoolhouseTeachers.com who have a real heart for making students aware of issues in the world today. They want students to be able to think critically and not be led astray. Lisa Duffy is one such teacher. Through her Logic course, Lisa teaches students to analyze statements, advertisements, and arguments in order to identify faulty reasoning contained in each. Upon completion of this course, middle and high school students should be able to reason through the fallacies that are sometimes contained in what they are exposed to in the world around them, for example, the appeal to pity, appeal to fear, snob appeal, appeal to faulty authority, appeal to ignorance, hasty generalization, quoting out of context, and more. Written instruction, examples, assignments, and quizzes make up the 15 units of this course. When students know the fallacies, they can make a conscious effort to not present those same fallacies in their own work. Evonne Mandella helps students impact their world with Experience Videomaking. Evonne teaches students the concepts behind producing a video, but she takes it a step further by teaching students how to share their faith through their videos. Middle and high school students will learn to use software to make videos for private use, which can then be shared as gifts, resumes, and tutorials. This 18-week course contains lessons on mood and atmosphere, storyboards, music, finding images to use, sharing videos in safe places, showcasing an event, and creating a movie trailer.
