Do you ever feel like the more you know the smaller the world seems? There used to be a time when we had no idea what was going on halfway around the world. Now we have that information right at our fingertips. In many cases, that is a great thing. Take, for instance, Asia: Trade Route Safari with Bonnie Rose Hudson. This 38-lesson course allows elementary and middle school students to study the countries that existed along parts of the Silk Road, the Spice Route, and the Incense Road. As each country is studied, students will be given an overview of the history, meet an animal native to each country, meet the people, and gain an understanding of the country’s openness to Christianity. The course incorporates science, spelling, writing, history, and other subjects while exploring each country. Thirty countries are studied, including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait. Sometimes students from these other countries come to the US. In such cases, they often need to learn English. A short ESL Learning course is available on SchoolhouseTeachers.com. Taught by Anna Crisostomo, eight weeks’ worth of tips and resources are provided to help parents who are teaching ESL in their homes. Online games, printable worksheets, and more are included. The course begins at level 2 (grades 1-5).
